Hi @-William-,

Now that you have removed all of the old software, please install the HP Printer Drivers for OS X.

You may also find the frequently asked questions section of the following document: HP Printers - Installing a Mac Printer Driver Using Apple Software Update.

Please let me know if you require further assistance. I hope this helps. 🙂

Ok, I go to HP Utility.  I click scan to computer.  Then, I go to HP Scan.  I click on it.  THAT lets me click scan.  Then, a grey box pops up and a yellow ! inside of a trigangle.  It says Scanner reported an error.  An error occured during scanning.  That is it. I can neveer go beyond that.  The driver is driver version 2.0.  No clue the firmware.  The OS version is 10.10.3.  I have the thing connected with a network.  I have had a feeling that if I had a USB cable, things would work.  It is in another room.  But, If I got a 20 foot USB cable, I think it would be kind of cool.  haha

Then, when I click on scan from the printers and scanners thing, the only thing I ever get is The overview scan failed to complete.  That is what kepot happening to the lady from HP who tried to help me as well.  I will ask my mom to drive me to bestbuy and I'll get a long USB cable.  Maybe I could find one on Amazon.  I shall search.

@Glowzinski85: What model printer is it?

I think that both HP Utility and HP Scan are old software. Have you tried installing the latest version of the software for your printer from the HP website? I wonder whether you installed the software from the CDROM that came with the printer - this would probably be a very old version of the software. Certainly driver version 2.0 sounds quite old - I have an OfficeJet Pro 8100 and 8600 which both have v4.1 of the drivers, and an OfficeJet 7610 which has v4.2.1, both of which I believe to be the latest drivers for those printers.

When you are sure that you have the latest version of the drivers installed I would then download HP Easy Scan from the Apple App Store and try that.

Regarding the network connection - this should work fine (I use this all the time here with both the 8600 and 7610)  but there are a few things that might screw it up. But check out the drivers and get HP Easy Scan first.

Wow, I was way off with the update.  haha  Now though, it will not detect my device.  The printer shows it is online.  But, when I come to the Mac and try, nothing.

OK - which model of printer?

I think the next thing to try is to make sure that the printer's firmware is up to date. You can find the version of the firmware installed in two ways - through the panel on the front of the printer or by llogging onto it using a web browser. The easiest is probebaly through the front panel. Try searching through the menu structure to find somewhere that tells you which version it has installed. When you tell us which model of printer it is then I can probably tell you exactly how to get that information.

There may be some issues with the setup of your LAN which might need addressing as well, but let's make sure the printer is fully updated first.

I have been banging my head against the wall with this too. Finally I turned on the Wireless Direct setting on the printer and presto the HP Scan software found my scanner and its working fine now.

FINALLY!  After emailing HP many times and letting one of their techs connect to my Mac, I can finally scan.  But, it was from neither of the two that helped.  I am happy with their support.  They just could not get the thing to work.  So, a few days ago, I see updates.  One said HP Scan or someting like that.  I downloaded it.  Last night, I turned on the machine and the scan worked!  So, check the updates on your system or their site.  It finally works now.

Well, so much for that.  Now I get this.

The HP software required for Scan to Computer could not be located on this computer. Please download and install the latest HP recommended software for your device from http://www.hp.com/support, and then try again.

I can no longer scan.

Hi @Glowzinski85, I went page a few pages and can't seem to find a post that divulge what printer you have. If you could refresh my memory I'd appreciate it. I hope to be able to help you with this.
