HP Officejet Pro X476dw Multifunction Printer

I am trying to print and get the followed error "Remove paper and other material from the output bin and output door area. Make sure the output door can open. Once done, touch OK."

There is no paper in the output bin. The lever is working and the output door is open but I still get an error message.

I was advised to switch off, take the ink out, disconnect the power cable, connect again after 15sec, switch the printer on and put the ink back in place. I can print afterwards but only one session. The next session shows again the error and if I want to print I need to swtich off again and repeat the above steps.  As it is possible to print i know the lever and the sensor are working from hardware point of view. Why the printer has the error after the first successful print?

Hi @yarni578,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The recurring error you're experiencing with your HP Officejet Pro X476dw could be due to a few reasons, and it seems like you've already tried some troubleshooting steps. Here are some additional steps you can take to try to resolve the issue:

Check for paper or debris:

  • Double-check the entire paper path for any small pieces of paper or debris that may be triggering the sensor incorrectly.
  • Make sure there are no obstructions in the output bin or output door area.

Reset the printer:

  • Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cable, and wait for at least 15 seconds before reconnecting the power cable and turning the printer back on.

Update firmware:

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve known issues. Click here

Paper sensor issue:

  • The error message suggests that the printer is not detecting the output bin properly. There might be an issue with the paper sensor or the lever mechanism.
  • Carefully inspect the lever mechanism to ensure it moves freely and isn't sticking. If it's sticking, it may need cleaning or lubrication.

Printer driver issue:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated or corrupted drivers can sometimes cause communication issues between the computer and the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
