HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e All-in-One Printer

I have seen this question in a few incarnations but none come with diagrams or how-to videos of what to do about it,

I am getting the dreaded "The printer carriage cannot move" message.  No. there is no paper jam and yes, the ink cartridges are firmly in place.  I did see a YouTube video  that calls for unscrewing the layer of plastic that covers the carriage and diddling some levers & gears but I could not catch which printer Kevin is operating on.  But it does not look like mine in any case so I am reluctant to do that, lest I break something even worse.

I have too many ink cartridges remaining, more expensive than the printer itself so I am reluctant to toss this one. (I grok the business model; I don't have to like it.)

I need a printer-specific guide and even a video to what I can safely open and what do diddle there.

Any help form HP on this?

Thanks for helpful ideas.

One thing I hoped I could obtain:

I need a printer-specific guide and even a video to what I can safely open and what to diddle there.

I started to follow the directions in the video I mentioned in the first post.  That requires removing the "plate" that covers the carriage at the right.  I carefully prepared places for the 10 screws that I can see.  I was able to unscrew 8 of them (it's long out of warranty) but the final (I think) two are blocked by the scanner lid.

These things always have a secret for removing them (like my oven doors.)  That's the kind of manual I need - a reverse IKEA-like manual for putting together the printer after I've taken it apart.  In the meantime the screws are back in their places.  I *REALLY* want to salvage those expensive print cartridges!

Hi @jakesalomon,

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing carriage jam issues with your HP printer.

Please follow the steps listed below to reset the printer:
1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.
3. Wait 60 seconds.
4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
NOTE: HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
5. Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

I hope this helps.
