Dear all,
I have some problems with my brand new OfficeJet 8210.
When accessing the embeeded web server (EWS), the first thing I saw is that the cartridge levels are not shown on the first page. I just see a reload sign (and it doesn't help clicking on it) and an orange exclamation mark at the edge of that box.
Furthermore, if I go to Tools, I get the message
"System Error. An error has occured"
in the following sections:
- Product Information --> Printer Information
- Product Information -->Cartridge Gauge Level
- Reports --> Usage Report
- Reports --> Event log (sometimes)
This happens with Firexfox, Edge and Safari on different devices. I doesn't matter whether I use LAN or WLAN. The firmware is the one from February, means the latest one. I have already tried the partial and semi-full reset, no change.
Everything else works fine. If I go to the HP Smart in Windows 10, I can see the gauge levels and also the printer information, so basically these can be read by the printer. The same if I check it on the display.
Can anyone of you check if the same happens on your 8210 printer? Or has anyone an idea how to fix this? Maybe it's a setting on my side, however I can't imagine which one it should be as it happens on all my device (Windows, iOS, OS X)
Another strange thing is that the printer chose a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx address when being connected with LAN during first initialization. Happened again after semi-full reset. Both times I had to reset the network connection to get an address by DHCP. Did this happen to you as well?
As I just have bought it and Amazon would exchange it without any problems, I just need to know if this happens in general or if my printer is not working properly.
Thank you, Jogy

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Disable the IPv6 by going to the Wireless settings>Advanced settings>IPv6
Have you tried setting a manual IP address?
Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Let me know if this helps.

@Beety0610:
I have been away from home for some days and wanted to try the steps you proposed yesterday evening. However, when I checked in the EWS, everything worked fine. Really strange... as mentioned, I have tried it with different computers and cell phones and it worked on none.
Today I have the strange behavior that the event log gives me that error message when trying it in Firefox, however in Safari it works fine - on the same Macbook. Yesterday it worked fine in both.
Regarding the LAN disconnect: This seems to be a defect cable or switch. Remembered that I had (rare) disconnects on the 8100 I have used previously and when connecting to a nearby Router by another cable the 8210 it shows no disconnects so far.

Could you try any other Web browser apart from Firefox? Let us know what you see.

In the initial test, I have tried Firefox (Windows 10, OS X), Safari (iOS, OS X) and Edge (Windows 10). The error message has been shown in all browsers.
One week later (I'm working abroad during the week), it worked fine in Firefox on OS X. One hour later, it still worked for all pages but the event log. I then tried it with Safari on the same computer and everything worked. The next day, I have tried it again with Firefox on this computer and the event log worked again.
It's really strange.

I have already tried different browsers and described what happened.
Initially: Same problem on all browsers (three different browsers on five devices with three different OS).
Last weekend: Safari worked fine, Firefox sometimes had an issue with event log.
Fore sure I can try Edge, Chrome, IE etc. as well, however what will be the conclusion if the one or the other works or not?
That the problem may exists in different browsers has been shown by the initial test the weekend before last weekend. And last weekend has shown that it may work in at least two of these, more or less.
Or in other words: I'm absolutely willing to do more trials to narrow down the root cause, even if it basically works now. But I'd like to know why I'm doing these trials.
