My printer was working fine, then it ran out of ink.  I purchased a new set of cartridges (as we all know, at more than $100 these days) and replaced the empty red and it said wait, now you're out of black so i replaced that too.  then it said 'there is a problem with the printer or ink system' and a loop of turn me off and on proposed 'solutions' which of course did nothing.  Before I toss the thing, what else can i try?  reaching out to HP obviously gets me noplace as the printer is out of warranty.  What about the more likely fault with the HP cartridge?  I should at least be sent a new pack to see if that magically fixes things, but i'll be damned if i'm going to spend another $100+ to conduct the experiment.
