I have been pleased with my officejet 4635 until I clicked ok to a firmware update request from HP. It said that it would improve my printer. However, the request did not say that my ink cartridges may not work if I installed the update. I clicked ok and the update was installed successfully. Now I can't print anything because I get an error message saying the the ink cartridges I have are designed for older versions of the product. I do not use the new HP cartridges because they cost too much. I have been using refilled cartridges from Abacus in Phhoenix Az. which have worked just fine until I did the firmware update from HP. I need to revert back to the old system so I can print again. I am connected to a HP envy desktop running windows 8.1. I am mad as hell that HP would try and force you to buy their new cartridges with a trick update. I believe that whoever came up with this update should be fired. Any help with a solution would be appreciated.

I was told that there was no way to undo the firmware update. HP did send me a couple of ink cartridges so I could print again, but I am still ticked off about the way that this was handeled by HP. They sure did not warn me that my old version cartridges would not work any longer after the firmware update. I believe that this is just plain dishonest on HP part and I am certain that other customers have been caught by this firmware update. I am certain that it was an effort on HP part to force you to use their new cartridges. I will be really careful about accepting any updates from HP in the future.

Can you please PM me with the solution? My 4635 printer stopped working after the firmware update and I need to undo it. Thank you.

That is really unbelievable if I can't go back to an earlier/original firmware to get rid of this problem. I can't print now. I will have to wait and see IF I get a response and IF I get some solution like what you got. Thank you for the info.

Hello and welcome to the forums everybody:)

I noticed a mention of printing problems that are apparent on Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. I would like to point you to a great informational post by @JERENDS that discusses such printing problems.
