Are you able to Copy normally?
Please Uninstall and Reinstall the FULL feature software following these steps:
1. Uninstall the software on your computer
2. Download and save the FULL feature software (do not install it online) - Skip this step if you have the Software downloaded already
The following resource will help you : Click here
Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.
3. Install the FULL feature “Saved” software
Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.
If you are not sure how to do this, the following steps:
Perform root-level uninstallation to remove all printer-related software.
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.
Download and run the printer's full feature driver. Click here

HP Smart did not work, it is unable to perform scanning functions. I am able to print without HP Smart and also with HP Smart. We need to get the scanner function to work again.
We do not have a driver CD Disc. we need to download the proper driver for the HP Officejet 5255
