Tried to use printer to make a copy a few days ago. Error mssg "One of more cartridges appear to be damaged....." Replaced cartridge with no change. Researced online and printer needs firmware update to remove dynamic security feature that attempts to stop consumers from using non-HP ink cartridges. Downloaded firmware updater package. Run it. Printer is listed but grayed out and shows "up to date." So, I cannot update anything, I cannot get past the error message, I have opened numerous printer cartridges, and I cannot print.
I called HP Customer Support. Reached India. Spent 15 minutes on the phone before I became so frustrated that I hung up. All "support" wants to do is sell me a new printer (ha!) and collect my personal information.
This, along with the price of genuine HP ink cartridges, is completely ridiculous. HP software has apparently hijacked my printer and made it no longer usable. I currently have a very old Brother printer stacked on top of this HP nightmare just so I can print documents and make copies. It is a hundred years old and just runs like a charm.
Any help would be appreciated. Why can't I install a firmware update via the USB port on the printer? Or, manually install a file somewhere?
