I have recently upgraded my computer operating system from Windows XP to Windows 7 (64-bit).
When trying to print double sided (duplex) after printing the first page I now do not get the pop up window asking me to take the paper out, turn over and press continue. The print simply hangs, and I can't cancel the print from the print queque without re-booting.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the HP software and have tried both the full and basic printer drivers to no avail.
Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, if the option is not coming up automatically, try configuring the printer again using Windows built-in drivers instead of HP and check if it helped. Click here for the article.
The article states that not all the printers get the continue button to insert the paper to complete the manual duplexing.
Let me know if this helped.

Greetings @nigelowen,
Thanks for the post.
I understand that you are unable to perform manual duplex on your printer, is that right?
Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.
Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.
Are you facing any print or copy quality issue with your printer?
Request you refer to this HP Article for assistance with manual duplex printing. Click here.
If the issue persists, please uninstall the printer software by following the procedure mentioned below to and then install it back.
Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed from the control panel. (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it.
(device manager can be accessed from the control panel.)
Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
Click on print server properties.
You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.
Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
Restart the PC.
Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files, ignore them).
If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
Restart the PC again.
Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
Let me know if this helped.

Thanks for your help.
I have followed your suggestion, have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers but the problem remains.
When printing a two page document using duplex printing, the first page prints but then I do not get the usual 'pop up' window telling me to take the paper out/reverse/rplace and then press Continue. The print simply stalls with the remaining page waiting to print with no means of telling it to continue.
Any further help appreciated.

Many thanks!
As suggested I uninstalled the drivers, re booted then simply plugged in the printer to my computer. The in-built drivers installed and the printer now works perfectly - I now get the pop up message to turn the paper over with the 'Continue' button.
Problem solved!
I thank you for your help.
