OfficeJet Pro 8210
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have the HP universal print driver installed, set up the  OfficeJet Pro 8210, IT managed mode, ink cartridges installed and printer alignment sheet printed.

I plugged it in via USB, and the system set up the printer correctly.  I went to print a test page and the printer displays the following message:

"To print, you need to finish setup.  Press OK and follow instructions or choose ?".  I press OK, but nothing is displayed, it just goes back to the main menu, and the help screen is useless.

I can print reports from the printer menus fine, it just won't print from the Windows 10 system.

I've set up 8 of these the same exact way with no issues.  I'm thinking I may try the self managed mode.

Does anyone know how to reset the printer to factory specs so I can restart the entire process again using self-managed mode?

I got on a chat with HP to resolve the issue yesterday.  We had to install the full version of the software rather then the basic driver.

That is odd since I had a different OfficeJet Pro 8210 working on my system a few days earlier using the old driver.

Anyhow, it worked, so the problem is resolved.  Sorry for not closing the post earlier.

“Need to finish Setup” error on the printer. Is that right?

Thank you for sharing the issue details. I would like to help you.

I recommend you try reinstalling the printer software once again and check if that error gets taken care.

Firstly, uninstall the software that you had installed already.

Restart the PC after the uninstallation and then try to install it back on to the PC following the onscreen prompts

Hope this helps. Let me know for more.

Happy posting.

I think this is a VERY poor choice on behalf of HP. I had to help my 88 year old mother-in-law install her new printer that she bought and it kept looping on the printer back to say that setup was not completed. Luckily I have remote login setup on her computer and I was able to install the drivers and complete setup from the computer. She lives alone, 2000 miles away and I can't just run over and push buttons for her. She is VERY independent and HP has made this way too convoluted. Please simplify back to plug and play. We don't need ALL the software; it crowds the desktop and gives TOO many choices that only confuses someone who simply wants to quickly print an email or picture.
