Hey @joann953,
Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.
I understand that the fax option is setup as default on your computer and you are looking to change it your printer.
Not to worry, I will be glad to help.
Have you tried any troubleshooting steps on your own?
Are you able to make a copy or are you facing any print quality issues?
As you have not mentioned the operating system installed on your computer, I am giving the steps for both the operating systems.
For Windows
Open devices and printer from the control panel.
You will see 2 instances of your computer.
One will not have the tag of Fax.
Right-click on your printer which does not have the tag of Fax and set that as the default printer.
This should resolve the issue you are facing.
For MAC computer, please refer to this Apple article for assistance in setting the printer as a default printer.
Let me know if this helped.

I am having the same issue. Started when I installed windows 10. I have removed and reinstalled the printer several times. Each time it installs, it installs as a fax. i do not get any option to have it install otherwise. I do not have any other version of this printer on my computer. So please don't tell me to select the one that does not say FAX.

Go into your Control Panel select Device Printers, select the Printer you want to be your default Printer, and set it as default, then look for the Fax device, right click and remove it , that worked for me, only remove the Fax device if your're not using it. I'm not an HP employee or Technician, i'm only stating what worked for me when I had the same issue with my HP printer. I hope it works for you.
