I haven't used my F4480 in a few years and I just bought new cartridges. I went to print something and it is saying it is out of paper when I have about 20 sheets of paper loaded. I tried using the online troubleshooting, but it says to use the Paper Feed Cleaning from the device preferences menu under the features tab. When I go to that location I don't find any option for paper feed cleaning. Can someone please help me? Thank you.

Generally when a Deskjet says out of paper it has tried to feed the paper but the paper didn't actually get picked up.
Can you hear the feed rollers turning and does the printer seem like it's trying to pick up a sheet of paper?
If the printer is going through the motions but the rollers are slipping on the paper the first thing to do is to clean the rollers with water, I would use a Bounty paper towel voice and and hold it to the rollers while they're turning on the models I'm familiar with. The models I knew well are all obsolete now.

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm on the right forum, I have a photosmart 7510 all-in-one, where I get the out of paper error. I've cleaned the rollers although I don't use the printer that much and they don't seem dirty.
I do remember that the last time I used it was to print on some heavier card stock... I wonder if the printer was set for the heavier paper and no wwon't pickup a single sheet of regular paper.
Is there a way for me to check the paper thickness setting?? Thanks................Tomfeller

You are in the right place, a PhotoSmart is an inkjet printer.
It's probably dirty rollers, and water will work for cleaning.
I've never found any paper thickness adjustment in any HP printer I worked on.
Remember Kudos are appreciated, please click the thumbs up button if I'm helpful.

I also have the same problem but the pickup rollers are not dirty. On the 7510 the pickup rollers are attached to an arm that lowers to the paper stack and they feed the rollers that take the paper up to be printed. My problem is that the pickup rollers do not turn at all. Would it be a broken belt or gears?

had the same problem... and came up with a quick and easy solution.
Select something to print that won't take a lot of ink and choose the plain paper setting.
Take plain paper... I used two and poured 99% alcohol over the top/middle of the sheets.
Insert the sheets into the tray and print on the pages Each sheet will be picked up and pass through the printer.
This will clean the pick up roller... and will allow you to print again.
God Bless
