My Officejet printer was wirelessly connected to my desktop and notebook computers for 3 years without a problem, but the connection was suddenly gone on both computers...don't know why. I ran a network test and the wireless connection was perfect on the printer. I set it up again with the wireless setup wizard anyway to be sure. I tried to find the printer using HP software setup and Windows add a printer...neither worked. Tried manually setting IP address...didn't work. I shut down and restarted the router, printer and computer...didn't work. I disabled firewall...didn't work. I ran HP Print and Scan Doctor...didn't work. I'm down to uninstalling printer software. I have a second HP printer set up on this computer (not wireless). How do I uninstall only HP software that applies to the problem printer? Have I missed any possible solutions? If this doesn't work, how do I connect with USB (plug in first, during or after setup)? Any help is greatly appreciated...I've been working on this for days.

Hi @Cleveland2,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!
I see that you are facing issues while connecting the network printer to your new Windows 10 PC. Is the printer connected to the network? Check the wireless light. If the light is steady blue, then the printer is connected to the network. If the light is flashing, then the printer is not connected to the network. Go to Setup - Network - Wireless setup wizard to connect the printer to the newtork.
Once the printer is connected to the network, then assign a static IP to the printer:
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
- Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
- Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
- Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
- Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Now, try the steps below to install the printer over the network:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Restart your computer.
- Open the Run window (Press Windows logo key + R), type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
- Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
- Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
- Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
- Click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL32135/bi-109984-2/OJ_SF_K8600_140_408-4.exe and install the software.
- Select Wireless option on the connection page and then finish the installation.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Cheers 🙂

Thanks for the response. Typing the IP address in my browser does not bring up an EWS page. I contacted my ISP provider, AT&T, and asked how to do this and was told I would have to pay a technician for that information. I can get a list of home network devises with names, status, IP addresses, etc., but I can't manage settings for internal device IPs. It is IPv4. Also, I have several HP devices, including computers, so I don't know how to identify HP files/programs specifically and solely associated with this printer for uninstallation.

Hi @Cleveland2,
As I understand you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue. I would personally suggest this would need one on one interaction with the HP Phone support, so that they can remotely take control of your PC and help you check the settings.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true
(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get the phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!
Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again
Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,
It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.
If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accepted Solution.

Thanks for the info. I followed your instructions, but it says my warranty is expired and my only option is HP Support Forums. If I give up trying to reconnect wireless and instead use USB cable, will I still be able to scan to folders?

Hello, I was searching the discussion boards because I am having a problem similar to the problem you described. I purchased a cord and now my computer is hardwired to my printer and still will not print! How did you end up solving this problem? I would like to try the same thing that you did. Thank you!

I called HP customer support (it took me a few tries to get to a human) and the agent took control of my computer remotely and fixed some settings (I never would have found) and he had my PC and printer working together over the internet connection in minutes. When my PC suddenly stopped "finding" my printer on the internet connection, I tried every fix I could find on the the web and finally I bought a cable and was going to wire it directly, but the agent fixed it and I returned the cable. Good luck...I know how frustrated you feel!

Can you provide me with a contact number for support for this question as well....I've tried everything and failed to reconnect the printer with my HP Omni....which has worked for years until I got a new modem and upgraded internet speed. My network connection is fine. I am in California, USA. Thanks Mr. Singh.
