Photosmart 7510
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I am trying to print to my 7510 using custom paper sizes and get paper mismatch errors.  I am using Word for Mac v. 14.4.8 on a Mac running OS X 10.10.2.  I have gone through all of the suggestions in the HP support pages to try to resolve this issue to no avail.  there are no firmware updates or driver updates available that I can find from HP/support.  This error is becoming annoying.  I did no have this problem on my older printers that I foolishly got rid of to upgrade to the all in one printer. Can you give me any help other than suggest using the the information on the support pages which did not work.  ! have created various custom paper sizes in word to see if I could find a magic dimmension that will print and have had no success.  If some one cannot help me resolve this issue, this will be the last HP printer I buy.

Hopeful for some real help.

Hey @oldgt!

Thanks for getting back to me!

If you are only seeing media and quality in the print dialog box then that indicates you are using the Apple Airprint drivers and not the Photosmart 7510 series driver.  If the printer is not using the correct drivers it may not work correctly from third party programs like Microsoft Word or Adobe Reader.

To remove and re-add the printer using its correct drivers:

  1. Click the apple icon at the top left corner of the Mac
  2. Click System Preferences
  3. Click on Printers and Scanners
  4. Select the printer and press the minus (-) sign bellow the printer list
  5. After the printer is removed click the plus (+) sign bellow the printer list
  6. Click "Add Other Printer Or Scanner
  7. In the add printer window select your printer
  8. In the "USE" dropdown make sure you select the Photosmart 7510 series and NOT Airprint
  9. Add the printer and try printing again

Hello @oldgt!

Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

I can see that there is some issues when printing a custom paper size with your Photosmart 7510.  I would be happy to provide some suggestions that should hopefully resolve the issue!

You should be able to create a preset for your custom paper size using a Mac program like TextEdit.  Once the preset has been created in TextEdit, you can go back into your Microsoft Word document and choose that preset.  Sometimes creating a preset in a Microsoft program on a Mac computer may not communicate correctly.  So creating a preset in a Mac program and using it in the Microsoft program may fix the issue!

To create a preset using TextEdit:

  1. Open TextEdit from the Application folder
  2. Click File>Print
  3. In the print window click on show details at the bottom
  4. Select the TextEdit dropdown and click on Paper type and quality
  5. In paper type and quality you should be able to set your custom paper size and type
  6. Once the preset is created you will want to save and name it
  7. Click on the preset dropdown and click on save settings as current preset
  8. Name the preset, confirm  and close the page
  9. Open your Word document and choose your new preset and see if it works for you! 🙂

Cbert,

I tried your suggested solution and it did not work.  Here are the steps that I took:

1.  I created a document as you suggested using TextEdit and proceded to the print function.

I opened the Textedit v1.10(319) File>Print diolog box and much to my surprise, there was no  Paper type and quality

selection to choose. The closest thing I could find was the  Media & Quality selection which has no ability to create a paper size preset.

2.  I next selected File>Page Setup hoping this might work.  In Page setup, I went to the Papersize dialog box and used the Manage Custom  Sizes dropdown to create a custom paper size and applied this to the TextEdit document.  Incidentaly, the custom size that I created in Word was displayed  as a choice in the custom names box of the dialog box.  Feeling confident I selected File>Print and sent the TextEdit document to the printer and guess what. The printer gave me a Paper Mismach - The paper size detected by the printer sensor does not match the paper size selected in software. Undeterred, I proceeded back to Word to see what I would find.  I redefined the paper size to the same one that I had created in TextEdit and attemted to print The result was the same: Paper Mismatch.

My only Question now is What's next?

Cbert,

I applied your knowledge and removed the print driver, then installed the proper driver.

It was the solution.  I can now print on user defined paper sizes.

Thank you for your prompt and courteous help.

This also worked on the photosmart 7520 all in one printer I have.  Thank you so much!  I was pulling my hair out.

I tried all the suggestions I could find, but nothing was helping.  Finally, though, the answer came to me, and I cleaned the paper-sizing laser, and that did the trick.  It's located on the lower right hand side of the print unit that houses the printhead and cartridges, right below the middle of the handle that lifts up to release the printhead unit.  Look for a flat, square little box that's orientated vertically and is attached by a screw.  I used q-tips dipped in alcohol and wiped under the bottom from the right side, repeating with clean q-tips until I could get a clean one to come back out clean.  I hope this does the trick for someone else as well.
