Hello,
I am trying to print passport photos and our background is white, but when we put the memory card into the device the background is grey on the HP 7855 photo machine and it prints grey back ground.
Please help me get this corrected. I just bought this machine two months and it worked okay at first but now it prints dark grey. We lighten the photo and it's light grey. Our photo background is very white.
Thanks,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers & meet like minded tech enthusiasts!
As I understand the photo background is printing grey instead of white,
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
- Are you using genuine HP Ink cartridges?
- If not, there change in quality could be due to the 3rd party cartridge, I recommend switching back to HP genuine ink.
- Did you check the print settings?
- Does the test page & copier work without these issues?
While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:
Check the print settings for your print job in Windows.
-
In the software application you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print.
The Print window opens.
-
Open the Properties dialog box.
Depending on the software application, the button might be Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
-
Depending on your print job, you might consider modifying the following settings:
-
Paper Type: If you are printing on photo paper, select the type of photo paper you are attempting to print on.
-
Print Quality: If you are dissatisfied with the quality of your printouts, increase the print quality. To print more quickly, decrease the print quality. These options typically include Best, Normal, and Draft modes.
-
Paper Size: If you are printing on a different size of paper than you normally print on, select the correct paper size.
-
Black and White: If you want to print in black and white only, select the grayscale option.
-
-
After selecting the print settings, click OK to apply the settings, and then click Print.
After making any needed changes to the print settings, try to print again. If the print quality is unacceptable, continue to the next step.

I have the same issue as above and the solution you suggested doesn't seem to help. This is on a brand new MFP M281 cdw. it is brand new, if we cannot find a simple proper solution we will just return to the store with a veryy unhappy review. Thank you.
