My printer prints everything but black clearly; I have put in a new cartridge and run the head-cleaning program to no avail. Is there a way to clean the head for the black by hand? Help! I have some things I need to print!

Thanks! It was easier and less likely to do damage if I just bit the bullet and replaced it! I may need your help in the future with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 - stay tuned 🙂

Hi @BarryShu,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you're experiencing print quality issue with your HP Photosmart 6510 printer. I would be happy to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.

It sounds like you have done a lot of the troubleshooting already.

Please ensure you have followed this guide:

The cartridge is either dirty, defective or the printhead is clogged. This printhead is not customer removable, however if the printer is out of warranty you could try the steps in these videos below. I suggest you watch both videos before proceeding and use at you're own discretion.

The first video shows how to do a manual printhead cleaning.

Video: HP 5510 won't print black and colors - printhead removal and cleaning.

NOTE: HP Photosmart 5510 does not have a removable printhead like your HP Photosmart 6510. I would follow the same cleaning steps, suggested in this video.

The second video shows how to remove it completely and do a more thorough cleaning. This video shows how to gain access to the printhead on the HP Photosmart 6510. End the video at 4:42.
