Photosmart 8450
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have "inherited" from my boss an HP Photosmart 8450 (S/N: [edited]).  Hasn't been used in a few years.  Went to plug it in, and after the initial "splash screen" on the small display, it becomes amber with what looks like a power symbol, and below the symbol, the code "805D0071" is displayed.  Also, the red LED indicator light in the card reader flashes.

Tried a Google search for the error code with no luck.  Tried searching HP Support, also with no luck.  Trying here.

Has anyone experienced this error before?  If so, what was the reason and the solution for repair?

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are getting error code 805D0071.

  • Is the printer connected to the wall outlet directly?

Meanwhile, perform power reset on the printer

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector and printer.
  6. Turn on the printer.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others and please give the same post a Kudos.

Cheers.

Don't know why it would make a difference plugging the power adapter directly into a wall socket or plugging it into a surge suppressor that is plugged into a wall socket (AC power is AC power - and other devices on the same surge suppressor work fine).

However, in the interest of "covering all the bases", I did try it in a wall socket directly - same problem occurred, so it's not that it isn't getting full AC power (or else ALL my devices would be experiencing an issue).

I take it that, since the only answer I got was a basic boilerplate "power recycle proceedure", I will assume that nobody has heard of this issue with these printers before??
