Product: Photosmart A717
Operating System: macOS 10.13 High Sierra

When I had the drive mounted on my computer, I mistakenly formatted it thinking it was the card I had inserted. Now it gives me a reading error and won't let me re-format it from the menu. I've been looking for the printer firmware but haven't found it either.
Any idea how to recover the internal folders of the printer?

Unfortunately, it is not possible and like you already mentioned there are no updates available for the printer.
