Hi All,
Great Post, Like all of you, just had the same problem with my C5180. I suspected the power supply.
But thanks to this post I was taken straight to the problem. Yup C228, a 330uf cap on the main board
( the one that connects to the power cord in. ) . This is the problem. If you are able to solder a little
bit . it is an easy fix. I removed the bad cap. On my meter it only measured about 140uf . . .
All I had to replace it with was a 220uf 25V so I put that in to try it, and sure enough it works great now.
Just saved me the cost of a new printer.
BTW: will order some 330uf 16V High temps next time I shop at mouser.com
Thanks again . . .
Barry

Thank you for this info. This was exactly the problem and solution that repaired my printer.
How ever I lost my video screen in the process and it looks like I slightly buggered the flat black cable end sliding it back together to the board. This cable runs between the circuit board and the display panel.
Have any idea where this item can be purchashed?

I have the same problem and every time I press the down arrow prints a test page (2 pages one with the six color) so the ink is just going down fast. I can print with the computer eg. M. S. Publisher but the front controls are dead also will not switch off, I have to unplug the printer.
Just for information I must say the I had a problem with my 4 years old printer Epson printer and I got the best attention from the above Epson Suport. Printer still working.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU H. P. ! CAN YOU NO SEE THE DAMAGE YOU ARE DOING TO YOUR COMPANY?. And to demostrate my point I was going to buya HP laptop but after this experience I desided for a diferent make, same with some friends.

Excellent. Thanks a lot. I did find the soldering a bit daunting not being that steady anymore,so had it done by a younger man, via a electronic's servicing firm. All is well now. Thank you very much for the vey useful decription.

Got the board out to replace the capacitors but managed to break the FFC cable attached to it. Having a hard time finding a replacement. Searched the web, called HP - no joy. Need help. The flat cable is a Sumitomo-M AWM 2896 80C VW-1-F-. It is 584mm long..... No other data on cable and can't get specs on cable from HP. Does anyone have any suggestions?
