HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

When I turned my printer on, the power button started flashing. "HP" is flashing on the lcd screen. The printer is not findable by my computer, either wirelessly or through USB. None of the buttons on the printer are responsive except for the power button. When I turn it off and turn it on again, the same thing happens.

I have already tried a hard reset, plugging directly into the wall, holding the cancel and power buttons together, and the cancel and wifi buttons together. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling HP Smart and all drivers for the printer. I cannot get the printer to set up again because it's still not findable even via USB.

I think I need to do a factory reset, but I cannot find instructions for that online or in the forums here. It looks like you need a PM from someone in the community with more information or something.

Please help me!

@Flyingmustachio, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I understand how frustrating it is when the printer is stuck in a state where nothing works except the flashing power light. Let’s try to reset it and recover functionality.

Here are steps you can try to force a reset or restore factory defaults. Be cautious, as these may erase custom settings (Wi-Fi, configuration, etc.):

Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Wait for 60 seconds and connect the power cord back in.
  5. Turn on the printer.

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Next, you can refer to this guide to factory default the printer: Restore factory defaults on your HP printer | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you, but none of these options worked, unfortunately! I tried restarting it multiple times, deleted and redownloaded the printer firmware twice, and tried multiple of the instructions to restore factory default, since there weren't instructions for the M29w specifically. I also tried several other M29w specific factory default instructions I found online.

Still, nothing will respond but the power button, and all it does when I turn it on is the lcd flashes "HP," and the power button flashes. My laptop recognizes that something is in the USB when the cord is hooked up, but it will not recognize or find the printer, nor will the file explorer show that anything is connected.

I'm not sure what to do at this point.
