Since this first post (May 17) I can see we can only expect (Dec 25) delays and excuses from HP not being able (or willing?) to solve this problem.
Does HP has the intention to solve this problem, an if so, when can we expect to have that solution?

1. Enable the HP ePrint remote printing function. (This allows you to e-mail documents to the printer while you are away from the house/office where the printer is)
2. From the web page you want to print on your iOS, select the ‘up arrow’ at the bottom of the page you are viewing. This brings up various options like ‘print’ and ‘mail’ etc. It also brings up an option to ‘save as PDF’.
3. Select ‘save as PDF’ and the web page refreshes as a PDF on your iOS devices screen.
4. Now select the up arrow again and choose the ‘mail’ option. The PDF then shows up open in the e-mail.
5. Now enter your printers remote e-mail address into the addressee line of the e-mail. (It will be your remote printing user name followed by ‘hpeprint.com’) and hit send.
The document should then print out full size on your printer via the remote print function.
Not a solution , but hope that helps until HP fixes the 8600 driver 😣

Thanks for the reply and I will try to see if your suggestions work.
However I bought 2 Epson Printers last night for $1100 and will see how these work but will keep my HP’s as second units in my city and country homes.
I am nearly 72 yrs so money and time is my friend and am retired but have two Airplanes. I fly regularly and use my iPhone X and two iPad 4 for my documentation for my flights and the change from IOS 10 to IOS 11 ruined my fun....so I will watch this forum and in the meantime go with the Epson printers to continue the fun of flying and everything else.
Happy New Year and,
cheers from Australia.

@IronBadger wrote:Looking through the list of printers that seem affected, they are all older devices (2011ish). These were all designed around an older AirPrint specification. This earlier spec did not report the paper size in the printer back to AirPrint on the device. I am wondering if this is related to that.
If Apple's response posted previously about AirPrint on iOS 11 ALWAYS defaulting to 3x5 then this may be the crux of the issue. It would appear that previously they would default to A size (Letter/A4) from the web or just based on the document type being printed. These older printers all worked with iOS 10.3.3.
Newer printers supporting the newer AirPrint specifications (around 2013) will report back the paper size (with some exceptions) and do not seem to be affected.
Early adoption can have it's challenges for developers as well as end users. 😕
I am still investigating this.
I am having trouble tracking down one of these older printers.
If anyone on here can check something, it might help us out.
Open the embedded web server for the printer by putting the IP address of the printer into a browser.
Look for a setting labeled Paper Settings and the Default Paper Size. I am going to assume these all show US Letter. But wanted to verify. If it is not then set the default to US Letter and try printing again.
Just wanted to drop a note to this thread and let you know I am investigating this.
Sorry it took this long to bubble up.
Since you submitted this I have installed a new iMac which required I install the print driver for my Officejet Pro 8100 directly from HP. This meant I had to use the latest HP facility (HP Easy Start) to setup my IMac. This worked perfectly and resulted in my iMac being able to use the printer with no problems. However, this did reult in my printer displaying other problems with regard to Airprint devices (iPhone and iPad). Whenever I try to use Airprint from these devices they report that they can't find any Airprint printers! Also my printer is no longer able to use the HP ePrint facility which means I now have no way whatsover to print from my IOS devices to this printer. I now have to resort to eMailing my IMac with anything I need to print. Very tedious!!!
Like many others contributing to this thread I will also be purchasing a non HP printer next time when my present HP ink supplies run out!

Hi Robin,
I own a HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a. This is a UK printer so it gives you the option to print to A4, letter etc . The Page size is only displayed under the Scan Tab on The embedded Web Server. There is no setting labelled Paper Setting and Default Paper Size that I can see on the embedded web server for my printer.

Thank You to IronBadger for claryfying a few issues.
I can help a little:
Living in Denmark, Europe I prefer A4 and the menu text is in Danish.
I am only half TechGeek and not sure when it comes ti IPv4/IPv6 and such issues.
- My Apple iPxx devices are all updated to latest OS
- I have updated and resat the HP Pro 8600 (and lost the friendly HPEPRINT adress :o( )
- when looking into the embedden server i notice:
> IPv4 is active Automatic
> IPv6 is not configured
> There is no page for printer settings - i have been through every menu and sub menu, only setting is
>> in scan settings A4 can be selected
>> in Fax settings you can define A4
>> in Settings for copying it is possible to set paper to A4 (my choice)
Some of you seems to have solved the problem by by using only IPv4 - this does not help me.
I can use the workarounds like create PDF and send to the printers mailadress, but this is not a genuine solution.
BTW : have any of you problems with a Pro 8620 or similar later versions?
Best regards - a frustrated , former HP Printer addict, 🙂
