Thank you IronBadger for some clarification.

Just out of curiosity : You mention IOS 11.3? My Iphone and iPad stick to IoS 11.2.5 as latest version. Do you have later versions in the USA? (I am in Denmark, Europe) Or do you have knowledge of next IoS release?

And my output is formatted appprox 6 x 9 cm ~ 2,4" x   3,5" (totally unreadable) and somewhat smaller than mentioned in previous discussions - but maybe not informative to the solution.

Apple announced it yesterday with a bunch of new features and fan fare.  It is not out yet.

I am just hopeful it has a fix.

switching to ip4 alone (taking out ip6 worked for me on 2 different hp 8600 printers, but only after the printer had been rebooted. Does any one know if Apple and HP have a fix for this yet? I, like othere, have wasted a lot of time on this and am disappointed with bot HP and Apple's response to date

After you removed ipv6 did you do a reboot of the printer? That is important.

Yes- it did require a reboot for it to work properly

hi,

as soon as we updated my wife's ipad and my ipad to ios 11, we ran into this problem.  I can see all the frustration on the other posts, which I share.

Just posting to say that using the HPsmart printing app does work as a workaround.  You can't just "print" you have to send the document to the HP smart app, and you may need to convert to a format like pdf because it won't accept all formats, but you can get something printed the proper size via this workaround.

I presume HP and Apple will, one day, fix this properly, but it seems this has been an issue for months.  We were late adopters of ios11, so have only just seen the issue.

What I would really appreciate is notification from HP when they think this is fixed.  many thanks

@ironbadger - Thanks for the clarification. Finally a credible explanation. Not sure why that couldn't have been given out by HP officially but there you go. I'm one of presumably thousands who have wasted time on trying to troubleshoot this issue.

Can you or anyone else clarify whether a new HP Officejet 8720 has the paper sensors required of Airprint under iOS 11?

I hate to be forced into throwing away a perfectly good printer (airprint aside) but I've always been disappointed when I buy printers from any other manufacturer so if I want this to work reliably again I'm going to have to do it.

That is unless anyone in apple's iOS 11.3 beta program knows 11.3 provides a workround for old printer owners?

Edit: Should have also said that I have an Officejet Pro 8600 N911g and have the same issue as the other posters in this forum. My Firmware version is CKP1CN1545AR. Disabling ipv6 hasn't helped me unfortunately. I have tried it wired and wireless and also done a semi-full factory reset from the hidden installer's menu. Nothing has helped so far!

I was able to solve the problem on HP Color LaserJet M254nw and iPhone 8 (iOS 11.2.6). I have changed the paper type in both trays to A4 (System-Paper Setup-Tray size). And now when sending to print Iphone writes the size of A4 paper. And then prints in full size. Below I attach screenshots.Screenshot_1.png

You would have imagined that with around $1b direct consumer printer revenues and multiple $b from supplies, the imaging president ?Enrique Lores would have fixed this already. But, the lack of any response from HP says it all - ‘we are not important’. So sad from a once principled corporation.

You have probably done this...but after disabling ipv6 did you turn off the printer?

I tried it without turning it off and no dice...but after turning it off it worked.

Some pages still come through small but most are alright. It still needs a fix.

I echo some of the complaints about HP in this forum. They must be reading this and wilfully ignoring us all. Makes no sense at all. Really bad for business. Their shareholders really ought to know what contempt they hold for many of their customersthrough what is basically ineffeciency!

In the most respectful way may I suggest that any HP personnel reading this bring this email chain to the attention of their most senior managers so that something is said (even if they dont have a fix) rather than ignoring those customers with a legitimate technical problem.
