I had to install "new ink cartridges"., and I am getting an error message "PRINTER FAILURE". I have done this several times: Unplug; wait; plug in; power on. I have pulled all the cartridges out, and back into the printer.

Hi @LGunk,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Printer Failure" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8625 e-All-in-One Printer after installing new ink cartridges could be related to various issues like printhead problems, cartridge compatibility, or internal hardware issues. Here’s a troubleshooting guide you can follow.
Check the Ink Cartridges
- Ensure correct installation: Confirm that all the cartridges are seated properly in their respective slots and that the protective tape (if any) on the new cartridges has been removed.
- Verify cartridge compatibility: Double-check that the cartridges are compatible with the HP Officejet Pro 8625 (e.g., HP 950 or HP 951 cartridges).
Inspect the Printhead
- Sometimes, a faulty or clogged printhead can trigger a "Printer Failure" error.
- Printhead Cleaning:
- Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the ink cartridge access door, and remove the cartridges.
- Carefully clean the printhead using a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with distilled water.
- Let the printhead dry, reinstall the cartridges, and power on the printer.
If the error persists, the printhead might need replacement.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Unplug the printer while it's powered on.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds (while unplugged) to drain any residual power.
- Plug the printer back in, power it on, and check if the error is cleared.
Update Firmware
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes, an outdated firmware version can cause operational errors.
- You can check and update the firmware through HP’s website by downloading the latest firmware version for the HP Officejet Pro 8625.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
