Hi,
I bought the HP OfficeJet 5220 printer last month. However, when i started printing documents double sided, the second page kept turning out to be upside down. I've already tried switch between flipping on the long edge and flipping on the short edge but it doesn't seem to be working. There is also no option in the printer's settings that allows me to change it. Is this due to the printer's printing mechanism or is there anything I can do to ensure that the second page does not print upside down?

Printer Software
If the Full Feature Software has been installed, there should be options to flip over / flip short or long side in the printer preferences.
Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >
Right-Click Printer > Printing Preferences
Select a shortcut that provides the feature and leave that shortcut highlighted (selected)
And / Or (if your printer software supported “custom shortcuts”)
Select a shortcut > Make changes that includes “Duplex”
NOTES
- Remember to check the settings under each Tab
- Pay attention – not all Media (kind of paper) and / or paper sizes support Duplex
Save the changed shortcut settings with “Save As” (wording varies) to create a Custom shortcut
If you like, leave that (new / custom) shortcut highlighted as the “default”
Click Apply / OK to save the shortcut

OK, perhaps I do not understand where / how you are setting "flipping on long edge and flipping on short edge".
- Is the printer Full Feature Software installed on the computer?
If yes,
- Does the software show in the list in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features?
- Can you open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click Printer > Printing Preferences
If no,
Please install the software.
- After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.
- What is the document type?
Document type examples: PDF, Word, Text (Notes), HTML (web page)
- What is the name of the software / program you are using to view the document and submit the job to the printer?
View and Print software, print submission examples:
- Printer Assistant shortcut icon on the Desktop, HP Smart, Adobe Reader DC, Browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
- Basic print: Navigate to folder > Right-Click on the name of the file > Print

Hi,
Every type of document I try to get printed ends up having the back page printed upside down. I have tried toggling between the "flipping on long edge" option and "flipping on short edge" option as that is usually the cause of the back page turning out to be printed upside down. I installed the full feature software a month ago and it appears in the control panel but the back pages of my printed documents still turn out to be printed upside down and i don't know what to do.

"Every type of document" = PDF, Word, HTML, Text, Excel ?? or Something else?
Assumptions are difficult because I may guess wrong about what you are doing.
If you have not done so, please update the printer Firmware.
New Printer is warranted against defect.
I suggest you contact HP Support - in the event that there is something wrong with the hardware, Support can help with options to resolve the issue with the printer.
You can perhaps expedite the process a bit by having some answers ready when you talk to support.
NOTE -- HP may ask different questions - following are samples of what might be asked.
For example,
➡️ Select a type of printing - for example "PDF" printing using Adobe Reader DC.
Have ready the version of that that software - for example, if you are using PDF, is your Adobe Reader DC software are the latest version? (Open Adobe Reader DC > Help > Check for Updates)
➡️ Do you see any indication of "duplex" setting in the Printer Properties?
Example
Duplex feature installed? (Model Dependent)
Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >
Right-Click Printer > Printer Properties > tab Device Settings >
Under Installable Options > Automatic Duplexing Unit > Select / Verify Installed > OK
➡️ Are you using a pre-made, standard shortcut (available in the printer software)
Or
➡️ Did you make a custom shortcut (using "Save As" for example)?
Example
Duplex feature in Printing Preferences (Model Dependent)
➡️ PDF Printing - using Adobe Reader DC as the example -
Open the document in Adobe Reader DC
Click the Print icon
Question:
Are you setting "Print on both sides" in the Adobe Reader DC main print menu?
Or
On the print menu, are you clicking Properties > and selecting a shortcut that includes the "duplex" option?
➡️Read and follow the directions > print the Printer Status Report
