I'm done fully installing my printer WITH the optional Tray 3 (THAT I REALLY NEED for Legal pages)... and my Printer will not print from it. It recognizes it... on the print screen (I even made sure it is set for legal paper) but everytime I print a legal sized document, it's promting me to load Legal in Tray 1! I even tried to LOCK Tray 1 with no success. I see no option for changing/fixing this in printer properties as well.
Anyone?

I FIXED IT!!!! The fix was... under paper settings (for each tray) I changed Tray 1 to "Letter Size" instead of "Any Size". Seems really stupid to me but... It seems to have fixed Tray 1 from stealing the Print Job!

I can offer the following...
If you have not yet done so, make sure that "Tray 3" Device Settings show Tray 3 as installed:
Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >
Right-Click on Printer > Printer Properties (not plain properties) >
tab Device Settings >
Look for Tray 3 > Click the right column Installed / Not Installed toggle >
Set to "Installed" >
OK
A general example of the Devices Setting tab can be found about half-way down this document in the How-to category:
Manage Status Notification Pop-ups
Reminder:
The document is written to address a different concern - the example is meant as a general reference!
More information about Tray 3 configuration can be found in the User Guide in Chapter 4

Thank you... that all worked. The computer and printer are definitely recognizing Tray 3... UNFORTUNATELY, the printer still WILL NOT print to tray 3. I even have it selected to print a legal document from Tray 3 (from the prining que/screen)
BUT... the Printer keeps defaulting to... "Load 8x14 paper in Tray 1"!
I've even tried to LOCK Tray 1 (in tray management screen on printer).
Thoughts?

Rats.
If your printer is on the network and supports the Embedded Web Server (EWS), try / consider:
Open your favorite browser >
type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
tab Settings >
Set options in categories:
Tray Settings
Paper Settings > for each tray
Click Apply to set options "in place"

I was able to link up wirelessly to it and pull up the IP Address. However... not really sure how I can fix it from there. It recognizes it... it just won't print to it. Keeps prompting to load legal paper to **bleep** TRAY 1 (LOL)

Wish I could help -- my own Officejet Pro 8630 only has two trays (which do work as expected, thank goodness).
Idea
Remove the tray (don't take apart the printer, just pull out the tray), stare at it, and then put the tray back into the printer. Try regular sized paper.
If you can at least get Tray 3 to print on plain, regular size paper, it might be more willing to accept a change-over to the legal paper.

Yay! Glad it is finally resolved.
Yes, specific tray settings are best -- any "Automatic" settings can leave the printer with too many choices. Printer will almost always guess "wrong". Smiling.
Happy Printing.
