Print jobs sent from my Mac present as “the printer is offline”. If I unplug the printer for one minute, the job will print automatically, but I have to go through this routine each time I need to print something. My Mac is using Sonoma 14.4.1

It sounds like your HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer is experiencing a connectivity issue, likely related to the way it interacts with your Mac running macOS Sonoma 14.4.1. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue.

 

Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the printer's control panel or by visiting the HP support website.
  • Update your Mac's printer drivers. You can do this by going to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, removing the printer, and then re-adding it. This should force macOS to download the latest driver.

Reset Printing System

  • On your Mac, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the list of devices on the left, and select Reset printing system....
  • This will remove all printers and scanners from your Mac, so you'll need to re-add your printer after the reset.

Assign a Static IP Address to the Printer

  • Sometimes, the printer may lose connection due to a changing IP address. Assigning a static IP address can help maintain a stable connection.
  • Access your printer’s web interface by typing its current IP address into a web browser.
  • Navigate to the network settings and assign a static IP address within your router’s range.

Check for Sleep Mode Issues

  • Your printer might be going into sleep mode and not waking up properly when a print job is sent.
  • Check the printer’s settings to disable or adjust the sleep mode. This is usually found in the Energy Settings on the printer's control panel.

Re-add Printer Using IP Address

  • Instead of adding the printer using the default “Bonjour” option, try adding it via its IP address:
    • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners on your Mac.
    • Click the “+” button to add a printer.
    • Select IP at the top of the window.
    • Enter your printer’s IP address, and make sure the correct driver is selected.

Check Wi-Fi Connectivity

  • Ensure your printer and Mac are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Check your Wi-Fi router settings to ensure there are no restrictions or firewall settings that might block the printer.

Update macOS

  • Ensure that macOS is fully updated to the latest version of Sonoma, as updates might include fixes for connectivity issues.

Restart Your Router

  • Sometimes, a simple router restart can resolve connectivity issues.
