My printer has started to cut the top of the page it is printing, it is as though the paper is in the wrong place as there is room left at the bottom. I have tried several ideas suggested on here but now have helped. I have tried to scan the alignment page but it is taking forever. Would be grateful for any help

@Gayle22 Welcome to HP Forums Community!
Here's what you need to do, to begin troubleshooting the issue:
Step 1: Tips for understanding printer alignment messages
Use these tips to help complete the alignment or remove the message.
-
Use clean white paper: Make sure the printer is loaded with unused, clean white paper, and then retry alignment.
-
Scan page if required: If your printer has a scanner, you might see instructions on the alignment page to place the page on the scanner bed and press Scan. Follow the instructions on the alignment page to complete the scan.
-
Choose 'Skip' to continue printing: If the 'Alignment Unsuccessful' message cannot be resolved, and you see a Skip button, you can choose to continue printing without alignment. Print quality might be affected.
If these tips do not resolve alignment issues, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Reset the printer
Turning the printer off, and then on again might resolve an Alignment failed error message.
-
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
-
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
-
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
-
Wait at least 60 seconds.
-
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
-
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
-
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
-
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
If resetting the printer does not resolve the issue, continue to the next step.

I also am having the problem of my HP OfficeJet 5255 cutting off the top of my pages. I have tried all the above steps that HP Support has suggested. I also have updated the latest Windows 10 update. My HP software is up to date. When I open the paper tray the paper has shifted. I push it towards the center of the printer as far as it will go. I open the door slowly again and the paper has shifted, so I repeat the steps. The documents I am printing are legal documents & the top of the forms are cut off printing or coming out off-center and crooked. This is my brand new printer! Thanks for your help.

@Sunny828, Welcome to HP Support Community!
To provide you with an accurate solution, I would like to know the following-
Is it an issue while printing only legal documents or other paper types too?
Are the paper guides intact inside the printer?
Do you see any loosened levers in the paper tray i.e., paper width guides?
Refer to the document HP DeskJet, OfficeJet 5200 Printers - Loading Paper, Cards, and Envelopes to learn more on paper handling.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your help! Prior to the printer doing this, an envelope was stuck in the rollers. I opened the cover to properly retrieve the envelope. One of the clear long plastic parts of the roller assembly was not snapped back in position. After I found this, my printer has been working great!
