Hi Reverse Talk, I cleaned all the rollers with lint free cloth and ionised water, waited 10 minutes, put some HP Advanced photo paper into the tray, set the paper feed to advanced photo papers, put an A4 photo under the copier and pressed copy..colour.. The printer whirred for a while, sounded as though it was trying to print, spat out two sheets of photo paper with nothing printed on them and said 'paper jam'. I checked inside and no paper was jammed from or back so I removed the photo paper and put in plain paper, changed the setting to plain paper and hit the copy colour button and it printed it out okay. The machine does not work with anything other than plain paper. Can you suggest anything else or would I be better to run it over with a forklift?
Thanks
JR

Thanks for your help I would be grateful if you could. Personally I think is is an inherrent fault in the office jets because I have noticed many others complaining online about identical problems and is is the same problem I had with my last officejet. They seem to work fine printing photos for the first ten minutes and then just fail to feed the heavier paper properly. I am trying to stay loyal to HP but it is becoming a bit of a strain.
Thanks again
JR

- Clean pickup roller with spirit or isopropyl alcohol.
- Check that leading edge of the media sheet is not damaged.
Hope the information provided is helpful,

The rollers have been cleaned with ionised water and Isopropanyl Alcahol, the paper is all new with undamaged edges and it is put carefully and properly into the paper tray. The papers used all correspond to the printers dialogue box for type, make and weight and I can still only print using plain paper.

Hi Again,
A point to note is that the printer itself and your sales site both clearly state that the 8730 will print HP Advanced Photo Paper and as far as I can tell that is all 250g.
The problem is the printer does not feed properly! It is great for plain paper and does everything very well but I need to be able to print photos so I would be grateful if HP to come up with a solution to this.
Many thanks

I have an HP 8730 Officejet Pro and IT WILL NOT PRINT ON 180 GRAMS PHOTO PAPER. ALL IT DOES IS PRINT HALF THE PHOTO AS IT IS GETTING STUCK.
BUT WHEN I DO THE SAME THING WITH PLAIN PAPER IT WORKS.
THESE PRINTERS DO NOT PRINT ON PAPER AT 180GM IT KEEPS SAYING PAPER JAM.
I THINK I SHOULD RATHER BUY AN EPSON.

Hi Linda,
I would not recommend an HP printer to anyone who is hoping to print photos, I must have been through six HP printers that jam or print half a photo or print with streaks. I have tried everything and spoken with untold HP support people and nothing works. I would suggest moving to Canon or Epsom. Very disappointing for a company as big as HP to sell such lousy products.
