Hi @maryjean23,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're experiencing printing issues where the print preview looks fine, but the actual printout is missing every other line and only prints the amount shown in the preview, there are several potential causes and solutions you can try.
Printer Driver Issues:
- Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed. Visit the manufacturer's website to download and install the most recent drivers for your printer model.
- If you recently updated your operating system, the existing printer drivers may be incompatible. Consider reinstalling or updating the drivers.
Print Settings:
- Check the print settings to ensure they match your intended print job. Make sure you are not unintentionally selecting a specific range or setting that limits the printed output.
- Verify that the paper size selected in the print settings matches the paper loaded in the printer.
Print Spooler:
- Restart the print spooler service on your computer. You can do this by opening the Run dialog (press Win + R), typing services.msc, finding the "Print Spooler" service, right-clicking it, and selecting "Restart."
Print Queue:
- Clear the print queue to remove any stuck or corrupted print jobs. Open the print queue, cancel all jobs, and then try printing again.
Printer Firmware:
- Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. Updating the printer's firmware can sometimes resolve printing issues.
Connection Issues:
- Ensure that the connection between your computer and the printer is stable. If you're using a USB cable, try a different cable or USB port. For wireless connections, make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
Test with Another Application:
- Try printing from a different application to determine if the issue is specific to one program. If the problem persists across multiple applications, it's more likely a system or printer-related issue.
Printer Troubleshooter:
- Most operating systems have built-in printer troubleshooters. Run the troubleshooter to identify and fix common printing problems.
Printer Hardware:
- If none of the software solutions work, there may be a hardware issue with the printer itself. Check for any visible signs of problems, such as paper jams or malfunctions, and consult the printer's manual for troubleshooting steps.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
