Product: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4302dw Printer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

I have connected the printer via ethernet cable to the LAN.
All devices I need to print from are within the same LAN.
- PCs: connected via eternet cable to the LAN

- Mobile devices connected via AirPrint

 

Whenever the printer enters Sleep / Auto Off mode it does not wake up when trying to print:
- PCs

- Mobile devices

 

It is even not pingable from LAN at that time!

Also touching the display does not change anything - no reaction

 

Pressing the power button once does not wake up the printer either - it just triggers some noise from a relais inside the printer. Pressing the power buttin a 2nd time shuts down the printer. A 3rd press reboots the printer and makes it accessible again and all is working fine.

 

The situation is annoying and the available knowledge base article does not cover my model "LaserJet Pro MFP 4302dw", but is describing exactly my issues:

I have the current actuel firmware installed: 6.12.1.12-202306030312

I am quite sure that a firmware fix is required, just like described solution for the other printer model inm the KB article mentioned above.

Once the printer enters auto-off the only way for it to turn on is press the power button.  In meeting various mandated power consumption issues for consumer products, this is the path that HP has taken. Enterprise models like the M578 do allow for disabling the auto off but not consumer models. I have toyed around with setting some type of scheduled task in Windows to keep the printer awake but have not hit the magic solution yet.

Sadly, what Repairatrooper describes does not work with this model.

Pressing the Power button once, does not turn on the printer when is in sleep mode.

You need to press it another time to shut-down and a 3rd time to re-power it.

 

The need to press the power button 3 times to bring the printer back from sleep mode, is for sure a firmware bug. By the way not the only one for this model (e.g. the web interface allows to define a double-sided scan, but the device stops working if you do so, but this should be another forum thread).
