So I've been dealing with this issue for a while now. I am unable to use my printer because every time I try to print it says I need to use Color Lok paper. I have checked the printer settings and the paper size and type is correct. I have also tried restarting it. I have tried taking the paper out and then putting it back in. It's regular letter sized paper, nothing cheap but nothing fancy. I can't print anything at all, not even reports from within the actual printer ( can't even do the system cleaning).

Hi @Reviv
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
f your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 printer is indicating that it needs ColorLok paper or is reporting that the paper tray is empty, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:
-
Check Paper Tray:
- Make sure that the paper tray is loaded with ColorLok paper and that the paper is properly aligned. Verify that the paper guides are snug against the edges of the paper stack.
-
Use ColorLok Paper:
- ColorLok technology is designed to enhance print quality. Ensure that you are using ColorLok paper, which is optimized for inkjet printing. Check the packaging or paper specifications to confirm.
-
Reload Paper:
- Remove the paper from the tray, straighten the stack, and then reload it. Sometimes, misaligned or tightly packed paper can cause detection issues.
-
Check Paper Type Settings:
- On your computer, check the print settings to make sure that the correct paper type is selected. If you're using ColorLok paper, choose the corresponding paper type in the printer settings.
- Update the software driver by selecting the current OS. Click here
-
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. Turn the printer on and check if the issue persists.
- If the problem continues, consider reaching out to HP support for assistance. They can provide specific troubleshooting steps based on the nature of the issue and might be able to offer additional guidance.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

The default paper setting on your driver is likely set for color lok paper.
On your computer go to control panel>devices and printers and right click on the icon for your printer and select printer properties from the dropdown menu. Click on printer preferences on lower left and check the default paper type. Change to plain paper.
