Please help, my printer keeps saying error 79 and restarting itself. It started doing this after I updated it. I have tried every solution that I have found on the internet and none of them have worked.

This is a bug in HP's latest firmware, which they point blank refuse to acknowledge.

To work around it, make sure your printer is not connected to any network (wifi or ethernet), then it should be stable.

Then either from the printer's control panel, or via USB connection find a setting to disable "IPv6" support.  On mine its under "Network Services" on the printer menu, but it varies by the exact printer model.

Once IPv6 is disabled, you should be able to connect your printer to the network again without getting error 79 and continuous reboots.

If you need IPv6 support you will have to downgrade the firmware (which HP are very keep to prevent you doing).

In any case disable firmware updates.

I'm having the exact problem.  Yesterday, 11/11/20, the printer told me I needed to update.  I did so, and now it is in an endless re-start loop.  Error 79.  My warranty ended 2 weeks ago of course.

I still don't know what the problem is, but I have discovered a few things about my issue.

1.  The problem happens when I have my Mac Pro or Macbook Pro on the wireless network.  When I shut off those two computers,  the printer stop it's restart loop, no more Error 79.  It sits idle as it should.

2.  If I turn the WiFi connectivity to OFF, I can add a Mac to the network, hardwire it to the printer using USB, and print that way.  As soon as I enable WiFi, the problem starts again.

3.  With the Mac systems offline, I can access the printer wirelessly using a Chromebook, and print.  It works as it should.

The problem is the Mac and, apparently, the new printer update that I was forced to install yesterday.

Around the same thing happens to mine. When I disconnect my printer from the internet it works just fine, so lately I have to plug my laptop into it to print anything. I don't know what to do anymore, I even tried reinstalling the firmware and that didn't even help.

Do you have a Mac?  If so, install the new Big Sur OS.  Assuming you have a Mac, I have a feeling that this all has to do with Big Sur and that it will work again soon with updates.

I don't know if your still having the issue but the solution for me was to turn off IPv6 in the network settings. Since I did that it has been working fine
