Officejet 6100
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Product Name: Officejet 6100
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Have an hp officejet 6100 all-in-one. Worked fine till I changed black ink cartridge. Installed correctly but got message remove black ink cartridge & check. Did that several times & got same message. Throught something wrong with cartridge so went to Staples with cartridge & printer. Sales person changed the printer cartridge & the computer printed a test page. I did not look at the test page or at the message box. He said it was fine. Brought home & now get message saying "press enter to align cartridge" did that 10 times, shut down & tried again. The page prints out with one long & one short black line & then same message re-appears & says alignment failed.. Desperate for help.

Thanks again....this is weird....the message is still in the window, however, I printed the test page you suggested and it came out fine. Just for the heck of it I tried printing a document from word & it works. I guess something is wrong with the message box.

The alignment process requires black and a color (typically cyan or magenta) to print properly for the alignment to complete.  I would suggest going through the troubleshooting step in the document here.  When you print the diagnostic page in solution six do colors print properly?

Follow these steps to print a test page from the product control panel:
  1. Load plain white paper into the paper tray.
  2. Press the Power button () to turn on the product, if it is not already on.
  3. Press and hold the Power button () while you perform the following button presses:
    1. Press the Cancel button () seven times.
    2. Press the Resume button () two times.
  4. Release the Power button (). The test page prints.

Thank for taking the time to reply. I followed you steps got a printeed page called "Extnded Self-Test Report". Look similar to the report you have here except colors did not print on the page.

Unfortunately, the screen says "press enter to align cartridges", same as before. Any other suggestions?

The alignment will always fail if black and the color used for alignment are not properly printing.  You will need to go through the troubleshooting steps to address color not printing.

The alignment page will likely print again when you power on the printer.  It may give up after three (or more) failed alignment attempts.
