@Nisa51, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer not printing PDF!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer is having trouble printing PDFs, stopping halfway or failing completely. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

Restart Everything

  • Restart your printer: Turn it off, unplug it for 30 seconds, and turn it back on.
  • Restart your computer: Sometimes a simple reboot can fix software glitches.
  • Restart your router (if printing wirelessly).

Update or Reinstall Your PDF Reader

  • If you’re using Adobe Acrobat Reader, make sure it’s up to date:
    • Open Acrobat Reader → Click Help → Select Check for Updates.
  • Try a different PDF reader.

Print as Image (Workaround)

  • Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Click Print (Ctrl + P) → Click Advanced → Check the box for Print as Image → Click OK → Print.

Try a Different PDF File

  • See if the issue is only with a specific PDF. Try printing another one.
  • If only one file is affected, it may be corrupt—try re-downloading or recreating it.

Update Printer Drivers

  • Go to HP’s official website → Search for HP ENVY 5530 → Download & install the latest drivers.

Check for Printer Firmware Updates

  • On your printer, go to SetupPrinter MaintenanceUpdate Printer.

Try a Different Connection

  • If printing via Wi-Fi, try using a USB cable instead.
  • If printing via USB, try a different USB port.

Clear Print Queue

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  • Find Print Spooler, right-click, and Restart it.

Convert the PDF to Another Format

  • Convert the PDF to a Word document and try printing that instead.
  • You can do this using Adobe Acrobat, Google Docs, or online converters.

Reinstall the Printer

  • Go to Control PanelDevices and PrintersRight-click your printerRemove device.
  • Then, reinstall it using HP Smart or HP’s website.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

@Zoey I have already been trying all the suggestions you have mentioned as I have read other threads. I have repeated them all so so many times since last week. I decided it was time to ditch it so it went to the tip today as my new printer arrived yesterday but I will not have another HP one decided to go back to Epson, as my  last one still worked through Win Xp, Win 7 and to Win 10.

Hp printer is on the local tip, I expected it to last longer than 8 or 9 years

@Nisa51, If I understand this right, you've tried all my suggestions and yet none of it worked!

Although the printer works fine, prints the entire page when you print an image or document unless it's a pdf file? If that's correct, the issue isn't the printer, the concern is with the program being used to print the pdf file, right? There's something to ponder about!

However, if the printer doesn't print any photo or document, or prints only half of everything, it could be an issue with the printer device, and we can fix that with a few troubleshooting steps, for starters, you can check if the copier works! that way we'll know if the printer hardware is fine and if its a mere software issue.

Once we identify the exact issue, we can work on getting you an apt solution.

Looking forward to your response!

PDFs with heavy graphics, layers, or encryption might overwhelm the printer’s memory or processing.

You can simplify the PDF—open it in an editor (like SwifDoo PDF or an online tool), flatten layers, or reduce resolution, then save and retry.
