I cannot get a single check to print from Quickbooks. I need to use the envelope feed for the single check to print from the center and it makes me choose a paper type. No matter what I choose the printer tells me that the paper size is not a match and runs the check through the printer without printing??

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
The Riddle_Decipher is at your service.
As I Understand the printer doesn't print using Quickbooks,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help you, although, to provide an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern:
Does the printer work using other applications such as MS Word, Excel, Adobe PDF, etc..?
When was the last time it worked without these issues? did you update the drivers or upgrade the firmware recently?
Eagerly awaiting a response!
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

I had this exact same problem however I'm on Windows 7 using an HP 8710.
I was able to fix it by going into Quickbooks: "File" --> "Printer Setup" --> "Check" --> Make sure your printer is the one selected by "Printer Name" --> "Properties" or "Options" --> "Print Quality" --> SET TO "DRAFT" then make sure you save this change. Exit back out to Quickbooks home or whatever and try to print the check again.
After two hours on the phone with HP Tech Support, a supervisor told me this was a new feature/safeguard on all HP printers that will not allow you to print if the paper size detected by the printer does not match the paper size selected by the software.
This is an infinitely idiotic change by HP. I could understand a warning with a way to override it but to flat out refuse to print if the paper size specified by the software/OS doesn't match the detected paper size in the printer is completely assenine and an absolute productivity killer. Sorry, I digress...
This solution worked for me, though it does not at all make any sense because Quickbooks is still telling the printer the paper size on a partial/single check is "Letter" - but maybe by setting it to "Draft" the printer does not check to make sure the paper size loaded in the printer matches the paper size specified by the software/OS? Who knows. But it worked for me.
I'd be curious if it works for you?
And here's the link from Intuit's website on resolving "paper mismatch" and related errors. If my solution doesn't work for you, maybe one of the others listed here will...:

Good luck and hope this helps!

Thank you "Rayxlp" for your suggestion to set Quickbooks print to draft.
Unfortunately it did not solve the problem for me. I to am using Windows 7 pro and I am not able to print single cheques from my new HP Officejet Pro 8710. (Always worked fine on my HP8500A) HP8710 detects it as a paper mismatch. Is there another solution? All other printing applications are working well.

I agree! I don't like 8710. I had an 8600 that I liked, but one day the HP ink for it wouldn't work anymore-said it wasn't correct cartridge! So we purchased this one. Touch screen is more like pound screen to make it work! Paper was factory set on glossy letter 8.5 x 11 and copied as if it were photo paper. Took awhile to figure that out. And yes, not being able to print 1 or 2 checks is dumb. I finally taped the check to a full piece of paper and that worked 😞 Dumb. This is an office jet printer. I print alot of checks.

Hi Riddle...the problen isn't that the printer won't print through QB...it just won't print a single check. It will print a sheet of 3 which is the standard 8x11 paper. But that isn't always my need...I'm often printing single checks. Help! Really don't want to have to return the printer.
