Hi,

I have HP323sdnw laser printer. Using pc works fine for duplex but when using mobile (HP app) for printing, regardless of the selected flip (long flip) it still prints upside down (short flip)

Hi @Shub007,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP Laser MFP 323sdnw prints perfectly from your PC, but when you use your mobile device via the HP app, the duplex print flips incorrectly, even when you select “Flip on long edge.” It’s like expecting a book to open normally, only to find the pages upside down.

Let’s walk through the steps to fix this mobile duplex flip issue.

Fix: Duplex Printing Flips Wrong Edge from Mobile (HP App)

1. Use the Correct Duplex Setting in the HP App

When printing from mobile:

  • Open the HP app.
  • Select your document → Tap Print.
  • Tap Print Settings → Go to Layout or Print on Both Sides.
  • Choose “Flip on long edge” (portrait binding) or “Flip on short edge” (landscape binding).

⚠️ Issue: Some versions of the HP Smart app do not honor the flip setting correctly, especially on Android. This is a known limitation with certain printer models and mobile drivers.

2. Workaround: Print via PDF Viewer Instead

Instead of printing directly from the HP App:

  • Save your document as a PDF.
  • Open it in a mobile PDF viewer (like Adobe Acrobat).
  • Use the system print dialog (not HP Smart).
  • Select “Print on both sides” → “Flip on long edge.”

This often respects the duplex orientation better than the HP app.

3. Update HP App and Printer Firmware

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I too have the same issue. I tried

1) Uninstall Hp smart app and print in Adobe app.

But nothing worked. In latest firmware only.

Hi @Shub007,

I understand you’re still facing the same duplex issue even after trying the HP Smart app, Adobe, and now experiencing the same flip problem from your laptop. Let’s go through a few deeper steps that can help correct the duplex orientation on your HP Laser MFP 323sdnw when the latest firmware causes a reversed flip.

Here are the next steps to try:

Manually set duplex orientation from the Printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)
• Get your printer IP address (print a Network Configuration Page from the printer).
• Type the IP into a browser (on PC/mobile) → open the printer webpage.
• Go to Settings → Printing Preferences → Finishing.
• Set 2-Sided Printing = Long Edge manually and Save.

Override duplex in the Windows Printer Properties
• On your PC: Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
• Right-click your printer → Printing preferences.
• Go to Finishing tab.
• Turn OFF “Automatic orientation” and manually set:
Print on both sides = Long Edge
Orientation = Portrait
• Apply and Print again.

Avoid “Automatic (Driver)” paper source and set paper type manually
Sometimes automatic paper detection overrides flip settings:
• Go to Printing Preferences → Paper/Quality.
• Set Paper Type = Plain, Tray = Tray 1.
• Save and retry duplex print.

Force long-edge duplex from the HP Smart Desktop app (not mobile)
• Open HP Smart on Windows.
• Go to Printer Settings → Advanced Settings → EWS link.
• Repeat Step 1 through EWS from HP Smart.

Temporary workaround test: Print in Landscape
• Switch to Landscape and set Flip on Short Edge.
• This reverses the logic and should print correctly for long-edge binding.

I hope this helps.
