Officejet 6600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

There is no error message, but each time I print anything it turns out way too dark. All details on pictures are gone into a black/grey mass. I have tried all the profiles but nothing is changed. I am using original HP ink. Also cleaning and adjustment of the printer makes no different.

How do I make my prints lighter and brigter.

Apperently windows didn't like changing the driver, so I restored the original OJ6600 driver. Then I added a new printer using the same port and used the DJ6980 driver. I was now able to print in color and use all the settings within that driver. This now made me able to print in an acceptable quality. I just wish the same setting options were available in the OJ6600 driver. Suggestion for improvement.

Thanks for your help and effort anyway.

Sorry, none of the options on that page (except maybe solution 😎 solves the issue. Also the page does not deal with Window 10, which makes me wonder if something is odd with windows10 driver.

I only gets following options in the advance setting:

Print in grey tone (ON/OFF)

Resolution: 300x300, 600x600, 1200x1200

Output quality: Draft, normal, best, max dpi

HP Real Life tech. (ON/OFF)

Print with frame (ON/OFF)

Print text on black (ON/OFF)

Neither of these options solves the issue.

I have tried printing a photo using an older version of ACDSee  and even with a gamma value of 2.0 the prints are far better but still dark, but this does not solve the issue when the picture is inside a document.

Try generic drivers

go to printer properties

advanced tab

new driver

the printer set up wizard will come up

under manufacturer select HP

then select deskjet 6980 printer

and try printing to that driver.

if that doesnt help then try replacing black cartridge.

I have tired your suggestion with the Deskjet driver and this gives far more options for adjusting the prints, however for unknown reasons I can only print in greytones regardless what setting I'm using.

As the black cardridge is a brand new original HP I cannot imagine that replacing this should make any difference - unless you are saying that HP have sould me a defective product.

Hi Captain2000,

Are you printing a photo with an ICC-profile or on a calibrated display? If so, I suggest you to use an application that is able to manage ICC profiles to print your photos. I encountered similar issues when I printed my photo using the default program, worked well after I switched.

HP Recommended

No I'm just using the Windows standard settings on my laptop.  I don't know if there is anyway to calibrate the display on a laptop (no screen adjustment buttons only thee windows brightness adjustment) I have tried to add different sRGB profiles but it made no difference.
