I've recently purchased an Envy 6234 AIO wireless printer.  Set up smoothly, prints from mobile ok, prints from the app ok.  but when I try to print a document (for example), from my pc, it whirls and clicks as if it is going to print, but nothing then happens. Also, weirdly, it only shows pdf docs in my folders on my pc, no other file extensions and can't change the option to show 'all files'.   Nothing in the print queue pending.  Have downloaded software and driver.  Tried the HP Print Doctor.  No help.   Sure it must be something simple I've missed - but it's now frustrating!!!  Help please?

Hi @Misterblinky

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

1) What's the operating system installed on the computer?

2) What software or application you are printing from?

Let me know.

Hi Asmita.

Thanks for responding to my question, but I think I've sorted it now.  I went into accounts/users settings and made sure my username was correctly inserted (which it was) and that I was down as an 'administrator' for my pc (which I was), and once I'd done that, even though I didn't change anything - strangely it worked!   Still having the same issue when using the print option via the HP Smart app from the pc, in that it only seems to recognise PDF documents, so if you have any fixes for that issue, I'd be grateful.  It seems that many other people are having this same problem.  If I go into the print menu from Windows, I can at least now print documents from my folders that are .doc or .odt files.  For info, I'm running Windows 10.

Happy to hear that your issue is resolved.

The HP Smart app only supports printing of PDF files.

I asked a question on 8 April when I had first purchased my Envy Photo 6234 AIO Printer.  I was having trouble printing from my Acer laptop.  I thought I had resolved it, but it seems not.  The problem re-started a couple of days later.

I asked a techy friend to have a look.  He tried everything he could think of.  After being unsuccesful in getting it to print from my laptop at home, he took my printer home with him to try with his laptop.  He also runs Windows 10 Home, the exact same version.  He loaded the printer on to his laptop and had no problems with it printing.  So, I took my laptop to his house and tried it from there.  Still wouldn't print.  We conclude from this that it is obviously something to do with my laptop.  But what could it be?  He couldn't detect what might be the problem.  Any ideas anyone?

I still have my old Brother DCP-197C printer connected and that prints fine.  I can also print photos to the new HP printer from my iPhone - no problem.  When I try from the laptop, it says it's printing, the printer starts up,  then goes quiet for a couple of seconds, then starts up again, but nothing prints.  It says there are 0 documents in the print queue.  Can't understand how it can print (eventually) initially, but not now?  What might be stopping it?

I'm considering purchasing a new laptop to try to solve the problem, but really don't want to spend the money and have the hassle if I don't need to.    Failing that I might just return or sell  the printer and try another make.  Help!

Try these steps -

Step 1 HP Print and Scan Doctor -

Click on this link to download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor

Step 2 Re-install the printer drivers -

1) In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".
2) Look for HP Printer software.
3) Right-click to uninstall.
4) In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.
5) In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.
6) Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).
8) Click on the "Drivers" tab.
9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.
10) Select Ok.
11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.
12) Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.
13) Restart the computer.
14) Download and install the software and drivers from here.
15)Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Let me know.

Hi Asmita

I've followed these steps.  Still not printing.  Exactly the same thing is happening.  When I run the Print Doctor (which I have done several times before), it always shows that the 'Recommended Updates' and 'Port Match' has had issues fixed, but will not even print a test page.

I've re-installed the drivers as per your instructions.  No luck.

Try installing the built-in driver. Refer to this document for steps - HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

If the issue still persists, try creating a new user account and install the printer driver -

1) Tap the Windows icon.
2) Select Settings.
3) Tap Accounts.
4) Select Family & other users.
5) Tap "Add someone else to this PC."
6) Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information."
7) Select "Add a user without a Microsoft account."
8) Enter a username, type the account's password twice, enter a clue and select Next.
9) Tap the Windows icon.
10) Select the User icon at the upper left corner of the Start menu.
11) Select the new user. You'll then sign into your account with your password from step 8.

Hi Asmita

I'm very grateful for your help and suggestions.  However, I have tried your recent instructions re trying installing the built-in driver and creating a new user account and installing the driver through that.

Neither worked.  When I try to print a test page now, the printer doesn't even start up.  I fear I'm just going around in circles.  Its days are numbered......
