Hi I have the same problem.
My printer continually goes to sleep and does not wake up when printing.
Touching the power button then triggers a shutdown after which I have to start the printer again.
As a result I am shutting down and switching on my printer every 20 minutes!!!!
My printer is an HP Officejet Pro 6830 and configured as a network printer over an ethernet cable.
The printer belongs to an Active Directory domain with a fixed IP address.
So this configuration seems to match your previous response to which the initiator of this discussion seems not to have responded to.
Hope you can provide a solution 🙂

Hi @SGA33,
Thanks for joining the HP Support Forums!
I noticed that you're experiencing sleep mode problems with your HP Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One Printer. I would be happy to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.
I see that you're connected to the network using a wired connection. There could be a problem with the settings or firmware. Follow the steps below to see if we can determine the cause.
Turn off IPV6 from the printer's front panel menu:
- Setup Menu
- Network Setup
- Advanced Settings
- IPV6, select Off.
- Reboot the router and printer.
- Allow the printer to go to sleep.
- Once the printer is asleep, tap the screen to wake the printer up.
- What were the results?
NOTE: If you receive an error that wireless is disabled when using a wired connection, temporarily unplug the ethernet cable and repeat the steps above.
If the problem persists, continue on.
Restore the printer to the original network settings
- From the printer control panel, touch Setup.
- Touch Network Setup.
- Touch Restore Network Settings.
- A message appears stating that the network defaults will be restored. Touch Yes. Unplug the ethernet cable.
- Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.
- Now, allow the printer to go to sleep.
- Tap the screen to wake the printer up.
- What were the results?
If the issue persists, try this reset and wait for the sleep mode to kick in.
Restore the printer to the original factory defaults
- From the printer control panel, touch Setup.
- Touch Printer Maintenance.
- Touch Restore.
- Touch Restore Factory Defaults.
- A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.
- A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored.Touch Restore.
- What were the results?
If the issue is resolved there was either a glitch or Eco setting interfering.
If the issue persists, upgrade the printer's firmware.

If all else fails, I recommend that we perform the Semi-full Reset. I can send you that information in a private message. In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck! 🙂

Hi Drakster
Thanks for your detailed response.
It turns out that my issue was simply my failing to read instructions carefully! I did not realise that I needed to tap the blank panel to wake up the printer, instead I was "tapping" the power button!
So thanks for the help,
SGA33

That’s not solving the problem! You shouldn’t have to manually wake up the printer from sleep mode by tapping on the control panel display—the printer should AUTOMATICALLY wake itself up when you send it something to print!
i and many others are having this same problem on the Officejet Pro 8600. Lots of complaints and suggested fixes in the forum, but no resolution posted anywhere!
