Working from my computer (MacBook Pro) Easy Scan App, when I try to scan I get a pop-up winder that says
"Automatic Document Feeder is Empty. No items were detected in the Automatic Document Feeder. Please place your originals into the Automatic Document Feeder and start the scan again." I WANT to scan from the flatbed screen.
Where is the dialogue box you are referring to? I don't any option (place to check box) to change ADF to flatbed.

@MarieRita, Welcome to HP Support Community!
What is the Operating System installed on your computer? If your computer has the Mac OS 10.15 Catalina installed, HP Easy Scan is currently not fully compatible with macOS Catalina. We're actively working to restore complete functionality. Scan using Apple Image Capture as a workaround.
You may refer to this document for more information - HP Printers - HP Easy Scan Is Not Currently Supported in macOS Catalina.
