I have the HP Officejet 7510 Wide Format printer that the warranty has been up for about a year.  Ok fine.  i'm not looking for a warranty repair, I'm trying to fix this printer myself and I want to know why I can't?

 

The old printhead's cyan reservoir tank or whatever you call it, the clear plastic film on the top of it popped and was leaking ink all over.  I removed the printhead and cleaned it, found the issue and ordered a replacement printhead online, model number CB863-60133.  

 

This printhead is not difficult to remove and replace, it's literally two screws, two vacuum tubes and four plugs.  I installed the replacement printhead and as expected I got an error about the printhead, though no actual error code with it.  

 

Why is this not a replaceable part?  I find this absolutely unacceptable.  I've got a ton of ink left over and I absolutely am not going to purchase another HP printer, i'm planning on using this one until its dead or i've used up all the ink I have for it.  Is this some sort of planned obsolescence thing?  I'm sorry but it's unacceptable that because this little piece of clear plastic popped on the printhead that i've got to replace the whole thing and get rid of the ink i've got for it.  Not acceptable.

 

And since I can't seem to find any online chat to get this answered, I want to know why this printhead is "not replaceable?"  Why?

Thank you for your reply but it’s too late.  

 

I had a friend who builds computers and knows his stuff way better than I come look at it, no issues with how I installed the new printhead, same exact printhead, no reason it shouldn’t have accepted it.  He said it’s most likely looking for a “match” of some kind, a chip or something, basically the printer was programmed to not work if anything like the printhead was replaced, regardless of it was done right.  Which was what I suspected as well.  We did multiple hard resets from the hidden service menu but the printer was useless because it couldn’t complete the set up, even with the original set up cartridges I saved for this reason.  

 

So I went out and bought an Epson printer.  Because I’d rather pitch the ink I still have than buy another HP product after this.  And the old HP Envy laptop I have that’s still running Windows 7 and needs replaced by the end of the year, yeah, that will not be another HP laptop as planned.

 

You've lost a lifelong loyal HP customer (who uses a lot of ink) because off this.  In the grand scheme of things this is minor but i don't support companies who pull this crap on their customers. Keep chasing that $$$ HP.
