If you are having the problem "since installing new color cartridges", you should contact HP to replace your cartridge under warranty.

Help!  I have a reconditioned Laserjet 5550 and it's worked perfectly for 18 months but has recently started printing red dots on every document, spaced about 1/3 way down the A4 page and the red dots are about 1" apart.   It prints the same dots on every page, regardless of size paper.  The red dot is visible on the black transfer roller/sheet (sorry don't know the official name!), I wipe it off but it comes back the next time. There is plenty of ink in the red ink cartridge.  I have cleaned the machine (as far as I know how) but it won't go away?  Can someone please help me???

Have you measured the exact distance between each red dot? If it is 1.5 it might be caused by the primary charger roller or the transfer belt (ETB), which is the black transfer roller/sheet that you are referring to.  If it is 1.97 inches, it is caused by the developing cylinder.

Try replacing the magenta cartridge and if that doesn't work, you should replace the ETB.

Hello, yes I have and it is 1.5 inches between dots.  I have just purchased a new magenta toner cartridge, but from what you say, it'll be just my luck that it's the ETB, which sounds expensive!  The printer is reconditioned but I would think probably 5 or 6 years old, and although it has lasted me well for 18 months, I only use it for my very small Art & greetings card business so my useage is quite small (I'm still on the original part-filled toner cartridges that came with it reconditioned!).   Is the ETB expensive (I'm in the UK) and is it something that I could easily fit myself (I'm quite tech savvy plus would have help from my husband!) or only something a technical repairman would fit?  Sorry for 20 questions.  I really, really appreciate your help and thank you so much, it is invaluable!  Meanwhile I'll fit the new Magenta cartridge and feedback shortly!  Thank you so much again!

I have exactly this problem.  Can you tell us how to take advantage of the toner warrenty?  My magenta toner is 80% full.
