@ShaeDreams73 Depending on the printer model name, I suggest you follow the below steps in due order to resolve the issue, let me know how this pans out:
Step 1: Verify the cartridge numbers
Make sure the cartridge numbers match your printer and where the country/region the printer was purchased.
Go to HP Store and verify the cartridge numbers for your printer model and country/region. Replace any incompatible cartridges.
Step 2: Reset the printer
Reset the printer to recover from printer failures.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
-
Unplug the power cord from the power source.
-
Wait 60 seconds.
-
Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
NOTE:
HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

I was worried about that and had a feeling it had to do with an update and they were getting around disabling non HP ink by making it more difficult to use non HP ink cartridges. If you find a work around can you please share?

Sure! See the attached photo. I cannot print and have followed all instructions. This just started after working fine for months and this is a new non-HP ink cartridge. It seems a recent firmware update is blocking non HP ink 😞
