Under system>administration I now see "Please note that this printer uses dynamic security measures to block cartridges using a non-HP chip, and periodic firmware updates will maintain the effectiveness of these measures and block cartridges that previously worked. The printer is intended to work only with new or reused cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip. For more information, go to www.hp.com/learn/ds"
Is this new?

Just called HP Corp. in CA, went through the phone tree to get tech support (my printers warranty was expired)….and they got the Resend Upgrade error FULLY FIXED!
Essentially, give them access to your computer via a secure log-in process, they log into the printer, download a file for the fix to a thumb drive, (and do a cell video chat so they can see the progress), install the file on the printer, turn off auto update, and boom…fully functioning printer again! The process essentially installed the previous firmware I think. AMAZING Customer Service experience for me! He did say to not upgrade any of the future firmwares as it’s not really needed. Thanks HP, you came through when I actually reached out to talk to ya!

…actually, the Firmware is still showing 20220414. Hmmm, well at any rate, my LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw is back up and running!
Maybe have some patience with the techs, they will support their products even after the warranty shows expired, in this particular scenario (auto firmware install messed it up). (They may have to remote in to your computer, so if you’re not ok with that, we’ll enjoy a bricked printer…or wait for a firmware update that may resolve it.) They did for me and I will continue to by HP because of it!

The facts.
1. I have an HP Color LaserJet Pro M180nw and uses HP Smart.
2. Since my printer is now about 2 years old, there is no warranty. I assumed the warranty was on parts.
3. HP does updates on-line similar to Microsoft updates.
4. Apparently, HP has screwed up their on-line updates from what I have been able to read in this community. My printer now will not function and has a "Resend Upgrade" that I can not get rid of.
5. HP will not help with this error without making me pay to extend a warranty.
6. HP, because of a software issue of their own making, has essentially taken my printer hostage unless I pay for an extended warranty.
This would be considered extorsion similar to what randsomware does. Why can't HP offer technical support for a software issue? Why is that a warrantee issue? I will not buy anymore HP products due to this issue.

If a class action lawsuit occurs, I am in. I have wasted about 6 hours on this issue as well as replaced all ink cartridges unnecessarily. I have tried their diagnostic software which states my printer is perfectly fine. I have called their tech support team that told me to keep in on so it could complete the update. I told the illiterate individual that "Resend Upgrade" is a request, it does not say "resending upgrade" as it doing some action. I still obeyed and left it on all night. It was a complete waste of electricity. Nothing has changed and the person did not call me back today as I was told he would do. He also mentioned "we" would need to update my warranty (make me pay money for their software issue, not a mechanical issue). I am switching my strategy of trying to fix the solution and will get a non-HP product. I have had an HP printer for over 20 years. Sad it has come to this.
