Hi @sdstar,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To reset the Embedded Web Server (EWS) username and password on your HP DeskJet GT 5820 All-In-One Printer and remove any existing security settings, follow these steps.

Factory Reset the Printer

Turn On the Printer: Ensure your printer is powered on.

Access the Printer’s Control Panel: Navigate to the control panel on your printer.

Go to Setup: Look for the Setup or Settings option (usually represented by a gear icon).

Find the Reset Option: Go to Printer Maintenance or Tools, and find the Restore Factory Defaults or Factory Reset option.

Confirm the Reset: Follow the prompts to confirm and complete the factory reset. This will restore all settings to their default values, including any username and password settings.

Clear the EWS Username and Password

Access the EWS Page: After the reset, the EWS page should be accessible with the default credentials. Typically, the default username and password are both empty or admin for many HP printers, but this can vary.

Log In: Enter the default username and password if prompted. If you can't access the EWS page because of a previous configuration, try accessing it through a web browser by typing the printer's IP address.

Change Security Settings:

  • Navigate to the Security or Administrator settings in the EWS page.
  • Look for options related to Administrator Password, Web Access Control, or User Accounts.
  • Remove or disable any set usernames and passwords to ensure no security is applied.

Apply and Save Changes: Save any changes you make to ensure they are applied.

Additional Steps if Needed

Reset Network Settings: If the EWS page is not accessible, you might need to reset the network settings of the printer as well.

These steps should help you reset or remove the username and password for accessing the EWS page on your HP DeskJet GT 5820.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello, still not resolved - will let you know once resolved.

I too am having problems getting this printe  ( enrolled in instant ink) to print anything, even  in the HP diagnostics.

Have entered a post several times now but after a certain point in documenting what my printer is doing my text dissappears?

All started happening with an error that  it was out of paper and then even after putting paper in it would still not recognize it had paper, but said there was a problem with the printer and would not print. I could print with a USB connection, but then after printing about 30 pages It would no longer print. NOT EVEN A TEST PAGE AS THE webservice light keeps blinking. The HP diagnostic tool would not get it to print and after several tries said it was a servious problem and to contact HP support. That has been impossible as I get directed to this foruum.

I  have treid to reset the unit to factoy settings to set it up from these settings but that does not seem to help. Now I  am unable to even see or connect to my in house wireless network, and the USB connection will not work. I can no longer get my printer to recognize my wireless network so an using my USB cable to connect to the printer. But again even that will not work.

I suspect it is my instant ink enrollement and that somehow the cartridges are turned off????? I have an extra set of new cartidges that arrived last week and next thing I will do is to replace them even thought my display panel show good cartridges. HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!!

Hi @jed73

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a series of frustrating issues with your HP printer, particularly related to connectivity, paper recognition, and possibly the Instant Ink service. Here are some steps you can try to resolve these problems:

1. Check the Printer's Physical Components

  • Paper Tray and Sensors: Ensure that the paper is loaded correctly and that the paper sensors are not blocked or malfunctioning. Check for any paper jams or obstructions in the tray or paper path.
  • Cartridges: Make sure the cartridges are properly installed and not damaged. If you're using Instant Ink cartridges, they should be recognized by the printer. However, since you've mentioned the possibility of the cartridges being turned off, it's a good idea to try installing the new set you received to see if that resolves the issue.

2. Reset the Printer

  • Factory Reset: Since you've already tried resetting the printer to factory settings, make sure you've followed the complete reset procedure. This often involves a specific sequence of button presses. Refer to your printer's user manual for exact instructions.
  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset internal components and resolve connectivity issues.

3. Network and Connectivity Issues

  • Reconfigure Wireless Settings: If the printer isn't connecting to your wireless network, try reconfiguring the wireless settings. Use the printer's control panel to select the correct network and enter the password.
  • Check Router Settings: Ensure that your router is functioning correctly and that the printer is within range. Also, check if the router's firmware is up to date.
  • USB Connection: If the USB connection isn't working, try using a different USB cable and port on your computer. Ensure that the printer is properly recognized by your operating system.

4. Instant Ink Service and Cartridges

  • Check Instant Ink Status: Log into your HP Instant Ink account to check the status of your subscription and cartridges. Sometimes, issues with the service can cause the printer to stop recognizing cartridges.
  • Replace Cartridges: If you suspect that the cartridges are causing the problem, replace them with the new ones you received. Even if the display panel shows the current cartridges as good, there might be an issue that isn't immediately visible.

5. Use HP Diagnostic Tools

  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: This tool can diagnose and fix many common printer issues. Download and run it to see if it can identify and resolve the problem.
  • Firmware Update: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model. Sometimes updates can resolve underlying issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I  finally got the printer to print but rec'd your reply in my email which I only saw later on. All the HP diagnostics and trouble shooting tools failed to resolve the problem. For the record and to help others with a similar problem here is what I found:

Items 1&2 and the diagnostic ands troubleshooting aids were all performed earlier but would not resolve the probelm.

I decided to change the color cartridge as well since I only replaced the BW cartridge which ran bone dry but the color was half full. At the same time I decided to  reinitiate my wireless connection to my printer which also stopped working and could not connect to the printer if I tried. But the reset on the print to my wireless system would not work.  I have not had any probelms with several PC I run with wireless connectivity but decided as a deul router I might be having problems with the 2.4Ghz band in my duel band router/wireless device.

After rebooting the router, I  was able to print using a USB cable, but I have not yet reset the wireless address on my printer for fear of not being able to print at all again.  Right now my wireless communications from my PCs to the printer is not working: it cannot find the wireless port that was set up originally.  I proabably have to delete and reinstall that port.

I am very busy now and cannot risk another printer failure so have postponed resetting the wireless port it that is what the problems is.  I simply cannot take the chance of lossing my printing capabilitites. Fearing another total printer outage, I have posponed getting my HP wireless printing to work.

I am surprised that the HP diagnostic and trouble shooting software will not see that there is no 2.4GHz signal or that the that port is not being recognized by my printer, especially since my HP smart program onmy PC can communicate with my printer. Maybe that connection is via the direct connect mode noted on some of the documentation?????  It is pity that HP doesnot offer a variety of preset configurations modes to set up a printer under various connections configurations. Instead they offer every conciveable option and leave it up to the user to figure out !!!!
