I am unable to administrate the printer, either through the HP Smart EWS panel, or through the HP utility as I have no recollection of any Security password that I may have set over a year ago. I've tried resetting the WiFi by pressing the red X and wifi button together but still the problem persists.
I need to reset the EWS password - I want to reset the printer completely ... how do I do this before i take a hammer to it!

@Bryan_D, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
The only way to reset the Network settings on this printer is to Press the Wireless button and the Cancel button from the printer control panel at the same time, and then hold them for three seconds.
If this does not help, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:
1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
2) Select your product type below.
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.
6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.
If you feel my post solved your issue, please click “Accept as Solution”, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

I Understand. Unlike other model printers(Officejet), HP DeskJet 3720 All-in-One Printer does not have an option to perform an EWS reset as it does not have a control panel/Screen.
However, I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

Today, I was contacted by an HP C/S rep whom emailed me the reset instructions. These have the possibility of 'bricking' the printer and are thus usually only issued for a machine within Warranty. Having accepted the risk I carried out the routine and my printer was returned to factory settings. The EWS password has been removed and the issue is now resolved. Thanks to the HP guys in this thread that chased the UK tech guys to get in touch 😉
