Up until a few weeks ago, all was well, but now it takes 3-5 minutes to print a document when using the chrome browser. I tested printing on edge & brave- no issue. I did not add any extensions, have rebooted the computer, unplugged the printer, etc to no avail. It prints just fine from a chromebook on the same network- no delay. So- it seems like a windows/chrome browser issue.
Any ideas?

I noticed the same problem at work so I did some testing.
The problem appeared with the 112 version of Chrome. PC's that are still on 111 are unaffected.
The problem only affects HP printers (in our case LaserJet Pro M402, M404 and MFP M428). Other printers in the network are unaffected (we have Epson, Lexmark and Kyocera).
The problem on my pc is not so drastic. The print preview window hangs and Chrome displays a “not responding” message in the title bar for about 15~20 seconds until it recovers and is ready to print. Prior to the Chrome update the print preview would be ready in 1~2 seconds
It seems it’s a Chrome 112 issue in combination with HP drivers. Since a Chrome update triggers it I think Google should fix this. HP should probably officially urge them to do so since it only affects their products.

Same issue here - mine on an OfficeJet 9020. Switching print drivers, uninstalling Chrome fully and reinstalling, applying Windows updates, all the usual troubleshooting steps had no effect. Adding the --disable-print-preview flag to the Chrome shortcut is an ok workaround but not ideal. Edge and other applications print without any trouble at all.
Edit: This is a known issue in Chromium 112/113 and is supposed to be fixed in version 114: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1424368

I uninstalled the latest version of Chrome and downloaded Version 111 from filepuma. I also turned off automatic downloads in msconfig for Google. It works like it did 2 days ago now. Not a safe or solid fix but at least it works. For reference my printer is HP 428.

Print Preview is very slow on MS Edge/Chrome browsers when printing to HP 8028. It takes 15-20 seconds to load. This is a new behavior. It does not happen with other software. It does not happen with other printers. Version 112 on both browsers.

Thought I'd chip in. Have a client experiencing the same issue, on both Chrome and Edge this morning.
They don't have HP printers, but do have Samsung printers (HP took over Samsung's printers) and the issue is happening on that printer, and not any brands.
Update: Issue is happening on another client who have around 30 HP printers, Chrome simply crashes and never gets to the print preview stage.
So far we've disabled print preview by running:
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome" /v DisablePrintPreview /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
from command prompt that has been elevated with administrator privileges.
and we recommend people to use Firefox for printing if they need the preview.
Chrome v113 (BETA) also has the issue.

I also encountered this at the company office.
The printer is HP laserJet MFP E72530 and LaserJet MFP M425.
OS: Windows 10 64 bit 21H2
Both chrome and edge have same issue.
Before updating to newest version, it is fine.
Now it takes 15~20 seconds to load the preview window with latest version of chrome or edge.
Is there any workaround?
