Same issue here, only started a few days ago.

Printer: Color Laser Jet Pro M454dn

Issue: Print Preview loads slowing across all different internet browsers not just chrome. If my printer is defaulted to print to PDF the print preview loads immediately as it should. Another coworker with the same printer is having the same issue.

Same here with my HP printer.  Has been perfectly ok for many years and problem has only appeared in last week or so.  I've not changed any settings nor to my knowledge has anything new downloaded.  Is there a SIMPLE fix for somebody like me who is not an expert?!

I wish that Google/HP would address this problem.  Uninstalling chrome and reinstalling an older version is not what I plan to do. And whatever is going on, first was only on chrome.  I tested it on edge and brave and they were fine- but not any more.  So... HP- how about a fix?

This isn't a HP problem. It's a bug in the print preview renderer in Chromium. They've already identified the issue affecting specific print drivers, and it's not limited to HP printers. Konica Minolta printers are also affected.

This is where the bug is being tracked and various fixes are being tested: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1424368

This issue has been resolved as of 4/13/2023 @ 10:30am EDT.  Chrome has been updated to resolve.  In Chrome, go to "Settings", then "About Chrome" and update Chrome.  A Relaunch will be necessary to complete the update.  The new version is 112.0.5615.87 (64-bit).

Brilliant, thanks.  Updating Chrome has worked and print preview now back to how it was.

EDIT:  I uninstalled the beta version and installed Version 112.0.5615.87 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Now it works again.  Thanks for the help!

I wish it had worked for me.   My build is

Chrome is up to date
Version 113.0.5672.24 (Official Build) beta (64-bit)

And it still lags

You are on the beta channel, try switching to Stable and updating: https://www.google.com/chrome/?platform=win
