Using the HP Smart App and following instructions in the HP video "How to fix an ‘Encryption Credentials Expired’ error on HP printers in macOS | HP Support" I received a message that a new self-signed certificate was created, as though the process was successful.  Nevertheless I continue to be unable to print and STILL have the error "Encryption Credentials Have Expired."  I repeated the process 3 times and still no luck.  I powered down the printer in case it needed to reset with the new certificate in place. Nothing works.

Hi @DKBK1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for your patience. You’re doing everything right, and I understand how frustrating it is to keep seeing the “Encryption Credentials Have Expired” error even after generating a new certificate. Here's what you can try next:

🛠️ Steps to Fix Persistent “Encryption Credentials Expired” Error

1. Use Desktop View of EWS (Not Mobile View)

Make sure you're accessing the Embedded Web Server (EWS) from a Windows PC using a desktop browser. The mobile view does not show the Certificates menu, which can cause incomplete certificate generation.

2. Clear Browser Cache and Reboot Devices

  • Clear the cache and cookies from the browser used to access EWS.
  • Restart both your Mac and printer after generating the certificate.
  • Reconnect via HP Smart App or AirPrint.

3. Remove and Re-add Printer on macOS

  • Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners
  • Remove the printer.
  • Re-add it using IP printing:
    • Use the printer’s IP address.
    • Select Secure AirPrint or IPP Everywhere.

4. Check Certificate Validity

  • In EWS → Network → Advanced Settings → Certificates
  • Confirm the new certificate is listed and valid for 10 years.
  • If not, repeat the creation process and ensure you click Finish.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
