After reading through some similar posts on this forum, I am still having the same problem.  I have tried all the suggestions NUMEROUS times such as shutting down my laptop, removing power to printer and router, reinstalling printer using the wizard, reinstalling driver software, etc.

After trying all of these several times, I get the same response after the printer driver download......cannot find printer.   (Have even tried to reinstall using the printer specific IP address.)

Printer information on dashboard indicates the printer is correctly installed and is connected wirelessly to my personal home wireless network so this leads me to believe the wizard worked everytime I ran it.

Would appreciate any help (other than what's already been posted since none of those steps seem to work).  I have no idea if it makes any difference but this problem is occuring with both my MAC laptop as well as another HP laptop running on WIndows 10.

Cannot understand how it works fine for a year and suddenly the problem shows up.

@LaurieH1

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the printer isn't working anymore,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did you check if the copier still works as a stand alone printer?
  • Does the test page print without issues?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

  1. Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet.

  2. In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button  to delete it.

  3. Click the Add button .

  4. Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

       NOTE:

If your printer does not display in the list, make sure the printer is connected, turned on, has power, and is ready to print.

Figure : Example of the printer selection list

Image: The Add window showing a selection of printers with one model selected.
  5. Click Print Using or Use.

  6. Select AirPrint.

Figure : Menu showing AirPrint selected

    Image: Menu showing AirPrint selected

Your new printer queue displays in the Printers list in an Idle status .

Figure : Example of a newly added printer in the Printers & Scanners list

Image: The printers and scanners windows with one printer in the printers list
  7. Try printing again.

    • If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting.

    • If the printer remains offline or displays an error, continue to the next step.

The printer works fine.

The problem is that I cannot add it to my printers list because my laptop cannot even find it.  There are no printers listed/displayed when I try to add one so something not allowing my laptops to find the printer even though the printer is on my wireless network.

Hi RIddle

I followed your latest steps and no luck.

When the Device Discovery window opens, there is the 'perpectual spinning wheel' that never stops.  So the firmware is not even being recognized ?  Shutting everything down, (router, printer, laptop) didn't make a difference either.

I really appreciate your suggestions so if there is something else I can try ,  please let me know.

Please perform a Printer Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Then Reset the Printing System

  1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.

  2. Click Printers & Scanners, Print & Scan, or Print & Fax.

  3. Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.

Figure : Clicking Reset printing system

    Image: Click Reset printing system
  4. Click Reset or OK.

  5. If prompted, type your username and password, and then click OK.

    The printing system resets.

  6. Turn off the printer, wait 5 seconds, and then turn on the printer.

  7. Wait until the printer is idle and silent.

  8. In the Printers window on the Mac, click the Add button .

  9. Select your printer from the list, and then click Add.

It might take a few seconds before your printer displays in the Printers list.

Note: Resetting the printing system removes all printers and scanners from the printers queue and clears all print jobs and print settings from the system, including printers and scanners that are not from HP.

Please perform these steps and let me know how it goes 👍

Thank you and have a great day 😁

Hi Krazy Toad

I followed your steps EXACTLY and the printer window never would display my printer.  It just says "no printer found'.

Tried all the steps in exact order and still no success.  I even tried to add the printer manually by entering the IP address but got message 'device not reachable'.  The printer prints, the printer says it is connected wirelessly to my home network, but the printer cannot be found by the computer.

Does the printer work with a USB connection?

If its working with other devices and as a stand alone printer, yet not working with the computer, I recommend you update the Mac OS, if that doesn't work, contact Mac support to get the printer connected to the device, you may need to explain that the printer works fine with other devices but not on this particular computer.
